The highlight of the day was confirmation of a White-throated Sparrow in Cheshire at Northwich where it had been reported on 25th November. Rarities elsewhere comprised the Isabelline Wheatear still in Gwynedd, both Pallid Harrier and Hume's Warbler in Norfolk, Spotted Sandpiper still in Essex, Hume's Warbler in Northumberland, Red-throated Pipit in Cornwall, Red-flanked Bluetail and two Dusky Warblers on the Isles of Scilly, Penduline Tit in East Sussex, Ferruginous Duck in Staffordshire, and a Black Kite briefly in East Yorkshire. Scarcities included Pallas's Warbler (Dorset), Serin (Scilly), Richard's Pipit (Anglesey), Ring-billed Gull (Cornwall), American Wigeon (Dumfries and Galloway), Green-winged Teal (Kent), two each of Little Bunting, Lapland Bunting, and Ring-necked Duck, seven of Yellow-browed Warbler and Glossy Ibis, 10 Shorelarks, and a total of 28 Waxwings. |
