Breaking news today included a Hooded Merganser in County Mayo at Newport, a White-billed Diver in Borders passing St Abb's Head, and Hume's Warblers new in Borders at Mire Loch and County Durham at Whitburn. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Wilson's Snipe and Red-flanked Bluetail on the Isles of Scilly, Isabelline Wheatears in both County Cork and Gwynedd, Hume's Warbler in Northumberland, Blue-winged Teal in Lincolnshire, and Long-billed Dowitcher and three Ferruginous Ducks in Norfolk. Scarcities included Common Rosefinch (Western Isles), Great Grey Shrike (Shetland Isles), Snow Goose (Orkney Isles), Kumlien's Gull (Aberdeenshire), two each of American Golden Plover, Hoopoe, Lapland Bunting, and Green-winged Teal, three Sabine's Gulls, four Great Shearwaters, nine Ring-necked Ducks, 16 Shorelarks, and a total of 197 Waxwings. |
