On the Shetland Isles today Great Snipe, Long-billed Dowitcher,
Arctic Warbler, and Bluethroat were all on Fair Isle, Western Bonelli's Warbler and
Pectoral Sandpiper on Mainland, and on Out Skerries two Common
Rosefinches. On the Isles of Scilly a Pectoral Sandpiper remained on Tresco and a
Wryneck on St Mary's. Rarities elsewhere comprised the Roller still in Devon at Bere Ferrers, and a Long-billed Dowitcher was new on the Orkney Isles on North Ronaldsay. Scarcities included Little Bunting (East Yorkshire), Red-breasted Flycatcher (Kent), Hoopoe (Highland), Purple Heron and Spotted Crake (together in Lancashire), Richard's Pipits (Cornwall and Lincolnshire), Red-backed Shrikes (Dorset and Suffolk), Red-necked Phalaropes (Herefordshire and Kent) and three Rose-coloured Starlings. |
