According to the Alderney Wildlife Trust, the most recent Puffin Survey identified 330 active nests on Burhou, a significant increase from the 120 nests documented in the initial study.

The trust published these statistics alongside additional data gathered in its annual review.

Roland Gauvain, the CEO of the trust, remarked that while the increase in Puffin nests is encouraging, the species remains at risk.

Throughout 2024, the trust conducted various surveys.

These efforts included the documentation of 6,180 moths, 16 assessments of crab populations, and 10 beach clean-ups and litter collection events.

Mr. Gauvain stated, "2024 has been a year of success as we navigate new ways of working which will have a positive impact on our island for years to come and enables us to deliver our goal of ensuring our Wildlife and Community are thriving, together."

He expressed gratitude to the members, volunteers, and staff for their continued support, which allows for a future where nature can be brought closer to residents of all ages through community collaboration.
