The highlight of the day was confirmation of a Black-winged Pratincole in County Donegal at Blanket Nook; the third record for Ireland. Rarities elsewhere comprised a Barolo Shearwater in Cornwall again passing Porthgwarra, a Long-billed Dowitcher new in Lancashire at Leighton Moss, Least Tern and Caspian Tern both still in County Dublin, a Baltic Gull in Lincolnshire at Whisby, Long-billed Dowitcher and three Bee-eaters still in Norfolk, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, and Black-winged Stilts in Gloucestershire, Lincolnshire (10), and South Yorkshire (6). Scarcities included Night Heron (South Yorkshire), Purple Heron (Northumberland), American Wigeon (Lincolnshire), Ring-necked Duck (South Yorkshire), Great Shearwater (Cornwall), Long-tailed Skua (Kent), two Rose-coloured Starlings, eight Pectoral Sandpipers, and a total of 38 Cory's Shearwaters. |
