New discoveries today included a Pallid Harrier at Point of Lag, Dumfries and Galloway, an Olive-backed Pipit on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly and a Radde's Warbler at Benacre, Suffolk. The Great Grey Shrike present at Hillswick, Shetland since Wednesday is now thought to be of the form homeyeri.
Lingering rarities included the Swainson's Thrush and two Hornemann's Arctic Redpolls in Shetland, Blue-winged Teal in London and Kentish Plover in Somerset. Scarcity highlights included an Ortolan Bunting, a Bluethroat, an Icterine Warbler, a Red-breasted Flycatcher, a Common Rosefinch, a Rose-coloured Starling, two Wrynecks, two Red-backed Shrikes, three Richard's Pipits, three Barred Warblers, a Purple Heron, eight Glossy Ibises, a Ring-necked Duck, a Honey Buzzard, an American Golden Plover, six Pectoral Sandpipers, three Red-necked Phalaropes, eight Grey Phalaropes, a Leach's Petrel, three Sabine's Gulls, three Long-tailed Skuas and nine Pomarine Skuas. |
