| Britain's first Cape Gull was identified at Grafham Water, Cambridgeshire this morning, where it remained and showed very well all day, for its second day.
An Aquatic Warbler was trapped and ringed at Longham Lakes, Dorset, a Bonaparte's Gull was in Wexford Harbour, County Wexford, a Black Kite flew over Llyn Coron, Anglesey and a second White-rumped Sandpiper appeared at Spurn, Yorkshire. Lingering rarities seen today included the Harlequin Duck in Shetland, Black Scoter in Aberdeenshire, two Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire, Turkestan Shrike in Yorkshire, Iberian Chiffchaff in London, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Whiskered Tern in Hampshire, Squacco Heron in Sussex, Bonaparte's Gulls in Kent and Argyll, Lesser Yellowlegs in Scilly, White-rumped Sandpiper in Leicestershire and five Bee-eaters in Norfolk. Scarcity highlights included a Surf Scoter, an American Golden Plover, a Temminck's Stint, a Grey Phalarope, two Pectoral Sandpipers, six Honey Buzzards, five Purple Herons, 24 Glossy Ibises, a Sabine's Gull, a Balearic Shearwater, two Cory's Shearwaters, nine Great Shearwaters, an Iceland Gull and a Glaucous Gull. |

The only new rarity found today was a White-rumped Sandpiper at Belvide Reservoir, Staffordshire, for a short while in the morning. Other remaining White-rumped Sandpipers were the birds at Eyebrook Reservoir in Leicestershire and Spurn in Yorkshire, however birds in Dorset and Fife were not seen today. The drake Harlequin Duck was again at Norwick, Unst, on the Shetlands and 2 Wilson's Petrels were seen from a pelagic off Scilly, along with 40 Great and 5 Cory's Shearwaters. Lingering rarities included the Turkestan Shrike in Yorkshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Forster's Tern in County Louth and Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire (2) and Northamptonshire. The family of Black-winged Stilts remained in Lincolnshire and the Bee-eaters were still in Norfolk. Scarcities included 2 Purple Herons, a Pectoral Sandpiper, an American Golden Plover, a Temminck's Stint, a Surf Scoter and 18 Glossy Ibises. |

Today's stand-out bird was a stunning drake Harlequin Duck, found on the beach at Norwick, Unst, in the Shetlands. Of 20 previous British records, this is the fourth for Shetland and only the second summer record, the previous being on St.Kilda, Western Isles, in June 2007. New White-rumped Sandpipers were found at Anstruther in Fife and Ferrybridge in Dorset. In Lincolnshire the family of Black-winged Stilts (that had been at Potteric Carr in Yorkshire) were rediscovered at Messingham Sand Quarry. The Black Scoter was seen again in Aberdeens and other lingering rarities included the Turkestan Shrike in Yorks, White-rumped Sandpipers in Leicestershire and Yorkshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire and on Scilly, Bonaparte's Gull seen from a boat in Argyll, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire (2) and Northamptonshire and the breeding Bee-eaters in Norfolk. Scarcities included 24 Cory's Shearwaters and 10 Great Shearwaters off the Scilles, with further Cory's off North Yorkshire and County Durham, a Night Heron in Kent, Purple Herons in Kent and Anglesey, 25 Glossy Ibises, 2 Surf Scoters, 2 Pectoral Sandpipers, an American Golden Plover, a Red-necked Phalarope and a family of Common Rosefinches on Fair Isle. |

In Leicestershire at Eyebrook Reservoir an adult White-rumped Sandpiper was found. Rarities confirmed as still present were the Turkestan Shrike in East Yorkshire, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Whiskered Tern in Hampshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Iberian Chiffchaff in London, Bonaparte's Gull in both Argyll and Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs Hampshire and Scilly, Ferruginous Ducks in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire (2), and at least seven Bee-eaters still visiting the colony at Trimingham, Norfolk. Scarcities included Pec Sand, Temminck’s Stint, 2 Purple Herons, Ring-necked Duck and 13 Glossy Ibises. |

| Seawatching today produced a Caspian Tern in Cornwall passing The Lizard, a
Sabine's Gull in Pembrokeshire, Long-tailed Skua in County Clare,
Wilson's Petrels in both County Clare and Cornwall, six Great
Shearwaters, and 15 Cory's Shearwaters. Rarities confirmed as still present were the Least Tern in County Dublin, Turkestan Shrike and Black-browed Albatross in East Yorkshire, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Least Sandpiper and Black-headed Wagtail in Cornwall, Stilt Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Whiskered Tern in Hampshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Iberian Chiffchaff in London, Bonaparte's Gull in both Argyll and Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs Hampshire and Scilly, Ferruginous Ducks in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire (2), and at least seven Bee-eaters still visiting the colony at Trimingham, Norfolk. Scarcities included Pectoral Sandpiper (County Wicklow), Temminck's Stint (Lancashire), Grey Phalarope (Western Isles), two each of both Purple Heron and Ring-necked Duck, and a total of 17 Glossy Ibises. |

| Seabirds proved the highlights today with a Fea's/Desertas Petrel in Cornwall reported passing both Pendeen Watch and Porthgwarra, a
Wilson's Petrel at sea off the Isles of Scilly, and a total of 226 Cory's Shearwaters between Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Rarities elsewhere comprised the Turkestan Shrike still in East Yorkshire, Stilt Sandpiper still in Lincolnshire, Least Sandpiper in Cornwall, Black Scoter in Aberdeenshire, Semipalmated Sandpiper in County Wicklow, Whiskered Tern in Hampshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs in both Hampshire and Scilly, Ferruginous Ducks in both Northamptonshire and Warwickshire, and in Norfolk at least seven Bee-eaters still at the colony at Trimingham. Scarcities included Night Heron and Purple Heron (Kent), Rose-coloured Starling (Ceredigion), American Golden Plover (County Mayo), Pectoral Sandpiper (Western Isles), Temminck's Stint (Lancashire), Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire), and a total of seven Glossy Ibises. |

| Discoveries today included a Semipalmated Sandpiper in County Wicklow at Poulaphouca Reservoir, a
White-rumped Sandpiper in East Yorkshire at Kilnsea, and a Black Kite in Ceredigion at Nant Y Arian; the latter presumably the same individual as that seen yesterday
ten miles to the northeast in Powys. In County Louth the Forster's Tern returned to Dundalk to undertake its complete moult; as it has done most autumns since 2006. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Turkestan Shrike and Black-browed Albatross together in East Yorkshire, Least Sandpiper in Cornwall, Stilt Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Black Scoter in Aberdeenshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Whiskered Tern in Hampshire, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, King Eider in Lothian, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire, Norfolk, and the Isles of Scilly, White-rumped Sandpiper and at least seven Bee-eaters in Norfolk, Ferruginous Ducks in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire (2), and a Wilson's Petrel at sea off Scilly. Scarcities included Temminck's Stint (Lancashire), Sabine's Gull (East Yorkshire), Ring-necked Duck (Anglesey), two each of both Cory's Shearwater and Pectoral Sandpiper, three of Purple Heron and Surf Scoter, and a total of 18 Glossy Ibises. |

| Today was a notable day for discoveries with in Aberdeenshire a Terek Sandpiper briefly at Loch of Strathbeg and a Black Scoter at Blackdog, in Highland a
Franklin's Gull on the Isle of Skye at Broadford Bay, a Whiskered Tern in Hampshire at Fishlake Meadows, a
Lesser Yellowlegs on the Isles of Scilly on Tresco, at least one Ferruginous Duck in Northamptonshire at Daventry Reservoir,
Black Kites in both Buckinghamshire and Powys, and new White-rumped Sandpipers in both County Kerry and Northumberland. Rarities elsewhere comprised the Greater Yellowlegs still in County Kildare, Turkestan Shrike and Black-browed Albatross both still together in East Yorkshire, Stilt Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Least Sandpiper in Cornwall, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Gull-billed Tern and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs in both Hampshire and Norfolk, two Wilson's Petrels at sea off the Isles of Scilly, and in Norfolk at least nine Bee-eaters still at the colony at Trimingham. Scarcities included Night Heron (Kent), Temminck's Stint (Lancashire), Spotted Crake (Perth and Kinross), Long-tailed Skua (Scilly), Ring-necked Duck (Anglesey), two Pectoral Sandpipers, three Purple Herons, 10 Great Shearwaters, 19 Glossy Ibises, and a total of 151 Cory's Shearwaters. |

| Rarities today comprised the Greater Yellowlegs still in County Kildare,
Least Tern in County Dublin, Turkestan Shrike and Black-browed Albatross together in East Yorkshire,
Least Sandpiper in Cornwall, Stilt Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Pied-billed Grebe in Argyll,
Squacco Heron and White-rumped Sandpiper in West Sussex, Gull-billed Tern and
Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs in both Hampshire and Norfolk, at least eight Bee-eaters still at the nest in Norfolk, and
Wilson's Petrels logged at sea off County Cork (9), at sea off the Isles of Scilly (3), and from land at Pendeen Watch, Cornwall. Scarcities included Night Heron (Kent), American Wigeon (County Londonderry), Ring-necked Duck (Anglesey), two Temminck's Stints, three each of both Purple Heron and Pectoral Sandpiper, 11 Glossy Ibises, 30 Great Shearwaters, and a total of 33 Cory's Shearwaters. |

| New rarities discovered today comprised a Greater Yellowlegs in County Kildare at Carton Demesne, a
Squacco Heron in West Sussex at Pagham Harbour, and a Bonaparte's Gull in Argyll on Mull. Elsewhere, rarities comprised the Turkestan Shrike and Black-browed Albatross still together in East Yorkshire, Least Sandpiper in Cornwall, Stilt Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Black Duck in County Mayo, White-rumped Sandpiper in West Sussex, Lesser Yellowlegs in both Hampshire and Norfolk, Bonaparte's Gulls in both County Cork and Kent, Wilson's Petrel at sea off the Isles of Scilly, two Ferruginous Ducks together in Warwickshire, the family of six Black-winged Stilts in South Yorkshire, and the breeding Bee-eaters still at the colony in Norfolk. Scarcities included Night Heron, Purple Heron and Temminck's Stint (all in Kent), Ring-necked Duck (Anglesey), two Pectoral Sandpipers, four Cory's Shearwaters, and a total of nine Glossy Ibises. |
