A Brunnich's Guillemot in Norfolk, first found off Holkham Bay before moving to a sand bar off Wells harbour mouth, provided a welcome county tick for most, but, sadly, it died just as it was apparently rescued. Another Brunnich's Guillemot flew past St Agnes Head in Cornwall. Also in Norfolk, a Ferruginous Duck was found on Ormesby Broad.
Lingering rarities included the Belted Kingfisher in Lancashire, Isabelline Wheatear in Lothian, Hume's Warbler in Suffolk, three Lesser Scaups in Argyll and two in Devon and a Ferruginous Duck in Surrey. Scarcity highlights included a Pallas's Warbler, a Great Grey Shrike, five Shorelarks, three Ring-necked Ducks, five Glossy Ibises, a Surf Scoter, three Green-winged Teals, a Snow Goose, a Todd's Canada Goose, a Black Brant, 30 Taiga Bean Geese, a Grey Phalarope, a Leach's Petrel, two Pomarine Skuas, nine Little Auks, four Glaucous Gulls and five Iceland Gulls. |
