  A great day for winter rarities with the Pine Bunting still in North Yorkshire, Dusky Thrush in Derbyshire, Pacific Divers in both Cornwall and Northumberland, White-billed Diver inland in Lincolnshire, Blue Rock Thrush in Gloucestershire, Northern Harrier and White-billed Diver on the Orkney Isles, American Coot on the Outer Hebrides, Hooded Merganser in Clyde, Pallid Harrier in East Yorkshire, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Desert Wheatear and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, Hudsonian Whimbrel in Cornwall, Long-billed Dowitcher in County Wexford, Lesser Yellowlegs in Dorset, Eastern Black Redstarts in both Cleveland and Cornwall, Red-breasted Goose in Lancashire, Ferruginous Ducks in County Durham and Norfolk, and Lesser Scaups in County Antrim, Cornwall and the Orkney Isles.

Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (West Sussex), Serin (East Sussex), Kumlien's Gull (Lancashire), two Little Buntings (Cornwall and Oxfordshire), three each of Richard's Pipit, Rough-legged Buzzard, Ring-billed Gull and Glossy Ibis, four each of Surf Scoter, American Wigeon and Ring-necked Duck, six Yellow-browed Warblers, 11 Great Grey Shrikes, 13 Lapland Buntings, 24 Cattle Egrets and 43 Shorelarks.
