Monday 17th September 2012
New discoveries today included an Ortolan Bunting on Portland, Dorset (trapped and ringed at the observatory), and a White-rumped Sandpiper and American Golden Plover on the Western Isles (South Uist and Benbecula respectively).

Lingering rarities included the Short-billed Dowitchers in Dorset and Isles of Scilly, Baillon's Crake in London, Semipalmated Sandpiper in Lothian, single White-rumped Sandpipers in Somerset and County Wexford, Spotted Sandpiper and American Golden Plover on the Western Isles (with others of the latter in Orkney (3) and County Wexford), Long-billed Dowitcher in Gloucestershire, Citrine Wagtail in the Isles of Scilly, Glossy Ibis in Cambridgeshire, Lesser Scaup in Somerset and Ferruginous Duck in Lincolnshire.

A wader at Balgarva, South Uist, Western Isles earlier in the month, thought by some to be a Western Sandpiper, may have reappeared this morning, but wasn't conclusively identified.
