Apart from a brief Bee-eater at Dale, Pembrokeshire and a
White-billed Diver from a boat off Melvaig, Highland, Red-rumped Swallow
was the bird of the day. New individuals were found in Cambridgeshire, Cornwall
and Norfolk, with two together at Blakeney and another single bird at Waxham.
Lingering rarity highlights included the Squacco Heron at Blagdon Lake, Somerset, Blue-winged Teal at Kirkintilloch in Clyde, Ortolan Bunting on Fair Isle, Shetland and Long-billed Dowitcher at Hodbarrow RSPB, Cumbria. Other rarities included a possible Azorean Yellow-legged Gull in Cornwall, a possible Baltic Gull in London, Glossy Ibises in Lancashire, Essex and Pembrokeshire (3), two Black-winged Stilts in Kent and two Red-rumped Swallows in the Isles of Scilly. |
