Black-winged Stilts breed in Lincolnshire for the first time

The RSPB has announced the news that a pair of Black-winged Stilts have hatched four young at their Frampton Marsh nature reserve in Lincolnshire, the first recorded breeding of the species in the county.

The adult birds were first reported on 1st May and were soon sitting on eggs. After a nervous wait for all the RSPB staff four young successfully hatched the four young on 6th June.

Lincolnshire becomes the latest county to record its first breeding Black-winged Stilts with Yorkshire seeing its first in 2022.

Spring 2023 has been seen Black-winged Stilts recorded at over 80 sites across Britain and Ireland, so no doubt we will be hearing of other breeding records very soon.
