Bird of the day was a Swainson's Thrush on the Isles of Scilly on Tresco, with nearby the Greenish Warbler still on St Agnes, Common Rosefinch on St Mary's, and four Wrynecks around the islands, whilst at sea there a Fea's/Desertas Petrel, at least 500 Cory's Shearwaters, 350 Great Shearwaters, and three Grey Phalaropes were logged. Discoveries elsewhere included a Baird's Sandpiper in County Cork at Ballycotton, Citrine Wagtail in Cornwall at Marazion, Ferruginous Duck in Staffordshire at Belvide Reservoir, and in Kent now two Red-footed Falcons together at Elmley. A Marbled Duck in Lincolnshire at Woodhall Spa has been present there since 27th September. On the Shetland Isles the Myrtle Warbler remained on Mainland along with Eastern Stonechat, Barred Warbler, probable Homeyer's Great Grey Shrike, two Bluethroats, and three Hornemann's Arctic Redpolls, on Out Skerries on Olive-backed Pipit, two Hornemann's Arctic Redpolls on Foula, Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll on Yell, American Golden Plover, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, and three Glossy Ibises all on Fetlar, Ortolan Bunting and Glossy Ibis on Unst, and American Golden Plover on Fair Isle. Lingering rarities elsewhere comprised the Pallid Harrier in Dumfries and Galloway, Spotted Sandpiper in Hampshire, Baird's Sandpiper in Aberdeenshire, Semipalmated Sandpiper in County Mayo, Red-footed Falcon in Norfolk, Blue-winged Teal in London, Lesser Yellowlegs in Cleveland, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Kentish Plover in Somerset, and Ferruginous Duck in Warwickshire. |
