Friday 12th August 2022  
  New discoveries today included an Aquatic Warbler at Lytchett Bay, Dorset, a Ferruginous Duck at Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire, a Black Kite at Loch Caolisport, Argyll and a White-rumped Sandpiper at Frampton Marsh RSPB, Lincolnshire.

Lingering rarities included the Turkestan Shrike in Yorkshire, five Black-winged Stilts in Cheshire, Lesser Yellowlegs in Scilly, Squacco Heron in Sussex, seven Bee-Eaters in Norfolk and Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire (two) and Northamptonshire.

Scarcity highlights included a Rose-coloured Starling, two Wrynecks, three Icterine Warblers, a Pectoral Sandpiper, a Temminck's Stint, two Red-necked Phalaropes, two Spotted Crakes, two Honey Buzzards, two Purple Herons, 11 Glossy Ibises, a Pomarine Skua, a Sabine's Gull, 12 Cory's Shearwaters, 41 Great Shearwaters, two Glaucous Gulls and a Tundra Bean Goose.

Thursday 11th August 2022  
  Five Black-winged Stilts were discovered at Doddington, Cheshire, whilst lingering rarities seen today included the Harlequin Duck in Shetland, Turkestan Shrike in Yorkshire, Squacco Heron in Sussex, Lesser Yellowlegs in Scilly, Iberian Chiffchaff in London, seven Bee-eaters in Norfolk and Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire (two) and Northamptonshire. Three Wilson's Petrels were seen from the Scilly pelagic along with a Cory's Shearwater and 15 Great Shearwaters.

Other scarcity highlights included two Icterine Warblers, two Honey Buzzards, a Spotted Crake, a Night Heron, three Purple Herons, eight Glossy Ibises, a Temminck's Stint, a Pectoral Sandpiper, two Red-necked Phalaropes, a Glaucous Gull and an Iceland Gull.

Wednesday 10th August 2022  
  Rarities today comprised the Cape Gull still in Cambridgeshire, Harlequin Duck on the Shetland Isles, Turkestan Shrike in East Yorkshire, Laughing Gull on the Isles of Scilly, Black Scoter in Aberdeenshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, King Eider in Lothian, White-rumped Sandpipers in both Leicestershire and East Yorkshire, two Ferruginous Ducks still together in Warwickshire, and Bee-eaters in both Hertfordshire and Norfolk (5).

Scarcities included Night Heron (Kent), Cory's Shearwater (County Kerry), Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire), two each of Spotted Crake, Temminck's Stint, and Pectoral Sandpiper, three Purple Herons, and a total of 18 Glossy Ibises.

Tuesday 9th August 2022  
  Rarities today comprised the Cape Gull still in Cambridgeshire at Grafham Water, Harlequin Duck on the Shetland Isles, Turkestan Shrike in East Yorkshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Black Kite in Ceredigion, White-rumped Sandpiper in Leicestershire, both Lesser Yellowlegs and Wilson's Petrel in the Isles of Scilly, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, a Black Kite briefly in Lothian, at least two Bee-eaters in Norfolk, and Ferruginous Ducks in both Northamptonshire and Warwickshire (2).

Scarcities included Night Heron (Kent), Barred Warbler (Northumberland), Rose-coloured Starling (Shetland Isles), Spotted Crake (Devon), Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire), Temminck's Stint (West Sussex), Long-tailed Skua (South Yorkshire), two Pectoral Sandpipers, three each of both Purple Heron and Great Shearwater, and a total of 15 Glossy Ibises.

Late news concerned up to 49 Wilson's Petrels noted at sea off County Cork in recent days.

Monday 8th August 2022  
  In Cambridgeshire, the Cape Gull lingered at Grafham Water all day. The Elegant Tern reappeared, this time on Aughinish Island, County Clare, and the Scilly Laughing Gull was seen from the evening pelagic, along with at least six Wilson's Petrels.

Other lingering rarities seen today included the Harlequin Duck in Shetland, Turkestan Shrike in Yorkshire, Squacco Heron in Sussex, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Bonaparte's Gull in Argyll, Lesser Yellowlegs in Scilly, White-rumped Sandpiper in Leicestershire, King Eider in Lothian, two Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire and another in Northamptonshire and five Bee-eaters in Norfolk. A Black Kite flew over Belhaven Bay.

Scarcity highlights included an Icterine Warbler, a Rose-coloured Starling, a Spotted Crake, a Purple Heron, 21 Glossy Ibises, two Pectoral Sandpipers, two Red-necked Phalaropes, a Honey Buzzard, a Glaucous Gull, a Pomarine Skua and 15 Balearic Shearwaters.

Sunday 7th August 2022  
  Britain's first Cape Gull was identified at Grafham Water, Cambridgeshire this morning, where it remained and showed very well all day, for its second day.

An Aquatic Warbler was trapped and ringed at Longham Lakes, Dorset, a Bonaparte's Gull was in Wexford Harbour, County Wexford, a Black Kite flew over Llyn Coron, Anglesey and a second White-rumped Sandpiper appeared at Spurn, Yorkshire.

Lingering rarities seen today included the Harlequin Duck in Shetland, Black Scoter in Aberdeenshire, two Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire, Turkestan Shrike in Yorkshire, Iberian Chiffchaff in London, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Whiskered Tern in Hampshire, Squacco Heron in Sussex, Bonaparte's Gulls in Kent and Argyll, Lesser Yellowlegs in Scilly, White-rumped Sandpiper in Leicestershire and five Bee-eaters in Norfolk.

Scarcity highlights included a Surf Scoter, an American Golden Plover, a Temminck's Stint, a Grey Phalarope, two Pectoral Sandpipers, six Honey Buzzards, five Purple Herons, 24 Glossy Ibises, a Sabine's Gull, a Balearic Shearwater, two Cory's Shearwaters, nine Great Shearwaters, an Iceland Gull and a Glaucous Gull.

Saturday 6th August 2022  
 

The only new rarity found today was a White-rumped Sandpiper at Belvide Reservoir, Staffordshire, for a short while in the morning. Other remaining White-rumped Sandpipers were the birds at Eyebrook Reservoir in Leicestershire and Spurn in Yorkshire, however birds in Dorset and Fife were not seen today.

The drake Harlequin Duck was again at Norwick, Unst, on the Shetlands and 2 Wilson's Petrels were seen from a pelagic off Scilly, along with 40 Great and 5 Cory's Shearwaters. Lingering rarities included the Turkestan Shrike in Yorkshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Forster's Tern in County Louth and Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire (2) and Northamptonshire. The family of Black-winged Stilts remained in Lincolnshire and the Bee-eaters were still in Norfolk.

Scarcities included 2 Purple Herons, a Pectoral Sandpiper, an American Golden Plover, a Temminck's Stint, a Surf Scoter and 18 Glossy Ibises.

Friday 5th August 2022  
 

Today's stand-out bird was a stunning drake Harlequin Duck, found on the beach at Norwick, Unst, in the Shetlands. Of 20 previous British records, this is the fourth for Shetland and only the second summer record, the previous being on St.Kilda, Western Isles, in June 2007.

New White-rumped Sandpipers were found at Anstruther in Fife and Ferrybridge in Dorset. In Lincolnshire the family of Black-winged Stilts (that had been at Potteric Carr in Yorkshire) were rediscovered at Messingham Sand Quarry.

The Black Scoter was seen again in Aberdeens and other lingering rarities included the Turkestan Shrike in Yorks, White-rumped Sandpipers in Leicestershire and Yorkshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire and on Scilly, Bonaparte's Gull seen from a boat in Argyll, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Ferruginous Ducks in Warwickshire (2) and Northamptonshire and the breeding Bee-eaters in Norfolk.

Scarcities included 24 Cory's Shearwaters and 10 Great Shearwaters off the Scilles, with further Cory's off North Yorkshire and County Durham, a Night Heron in Kent, Purple Herons in Kent and Anglesey, 25 Glossy Ibises, 2 Surf Scoters, 2 Pectoral Sandpipers, an American Golden Plover, a Red-necked Phalarope and a family of Common Rosefinches on Fair Isle.

Wednesday 3rd August 2022  
  Seawatching today produced a Caspian Tern in Cornwall passing The Lizard, a Sabine's Gull in Pembrokeshire, Long-tailed Skua in County Clare, Wilson's Petrels in both County Clare and Cornwall, six Great Shearwaters, and 15 Cory's Shearwaters.

Rarities confirmed as still present were the Least Tern in County Dublin, Turkestan Shrike and Black-browed Albatross in East Yorkshire, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Least Sandpiper and Black-headed Wagtail in Cornwall, Stilt Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Whiskered Tern in Hampshire, Squacco Heron in West Sussex, Iberian Chiffchaff in London, Bonaparte's Gull in both Argyll and Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs Hampshire and Scilly, Ferruginous Ducks in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire (2), and at least seven Bee-eaters still visiting the colony at Trimingham, Norfolk.

Scarcities included Pectoral Sandpiper (County Wicklow), Temminck's Stint (Lancashire), Grey Phalarope (Western Isles), two each of both Purple Heron and Ring-necked Duck, and a total of 17 Glossy Ibises.
