and Lesser Scaup in Cornwall, Black-throated Thrush in South Yorkshire, Desert Wheatear
in Devon, Eastern Black Redstart in Cleveland, Hooded Merganser in Clyde, Ferruginous Duck in Norfolk, and in Aberdeenshire the
King Eider returned to St Combs. Scarcities included Little Bunting (Suffolk), Richard's Pipit (Gloucestershire), Kumlien's Gull (County Cork), two each of Rose-coloured Starling, Surf Scoter and Ring-billed Gull, three Lapland Buntings, four American Wigeons, five each of both Yellow-browed Warbler and Great Grey Shrike, six Ring-necked Ducks, 25 Cattle Egrets and 46 Shorelarks. |

| The highlight of the day was the Black-throated Thrush still as Adwick Washland, South Yorkshire. Elsewhere lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the
Dusky Thrush in Derbyshire, Blue Rock Thrush in Gloucestershire,
Pacific Diver, Hudsonian Whimbrel and Lesser Scaup in Cornwall,
Killdeer on the Shetland Isles, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Desert Wheatear and
Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, Hooded Merganser in Clyde, Lesser Yellowlegs in Dorset,
Long-billed Dowitcher in County Wexford and Ferruginous Duck in Norfolk. Scarcities included Serin (East Sussex), two Rose-coloured Starlings, three each of American Wigeon, Surf Scoter, Shorelark and Yellow-browed Warbler, four Ring-necked Ducks, six Ring-billed Gulls and 29 Cattle Egrets. |

| Today's most exciting new discovery was a Black-throated Thrush
at Adwick Washlands, South Yorkshire. News of a Lesser White-fronted
Goose,
which has been present on Foulness Island (Essex) with a small flock of Russian
White-fronted Geese since early December 2016, was also released this
evening. Lingering rarities comprised Blue Rock Thrush (Gloucestershire), Dusky Thrush (Derbyshire), Ferruginous Duck (Norfolk), Black Scoter (Northumberland), Lesser Yellowlegs (Dorset), Pacific Diver, Hudsonian Whimbrel, Eastern Black Redstart and Lesser Scaup (Cornwall), Bonaparte's Gull (Devon), Long-billed Dowitcher (Co Wexford) and Eastern Black Redstart (Cleveland). |

Scarcity highlights included a Great Grey Shrike, a Kumlien's Gull, two Little Auks, two Surf Scoters, two Ring-necked Ducks, three American Wigeon, four Green-winged Teals, eight Yellow-browed Warblers, 25 Cattle Egrets, ten Ring-billed Gulls, 24 Iceland Gulls and around 95 Glaucous Gulls. |

Derbyshire, Killdeer in Shetland, American Coot in the
Western Isles, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Pacific Diver,
Eastern Black Redstart and Lesser Scaup in Cornwall, Pallid
Harrier in Yorkshire, Lesser Yellowlegs in Dorset and Ferruginous
Duck in Norfolk.
Scarcity highlights included a Pallas's Warbler, a Great Grey Shrike, three Yellow-browed Warblers, three Ring-necked Ducks, three American Wigeon and three Green-winged Teals. Scarce gull totals were 51 Glaucous Gulls, 19 Iceland Gulls and six Ring-billed Gulls. |

Scarcities included Pallas's Warbler and Little Bunting (both Suffolk), Rose-coloured Starling (West Sussex), Richard's Pipit (Gloucestershire), American Wigeon (Dumfrieshire), Kumlien's Gull (Cornwall), two Surf Scoters, three of both Ring-billed Gull and Glossy Ibis, four Rough-legged Buzzards, five Ring-necked Ducks, seven Lapland Buntings, eight Yellow-browed Warblers, 22 Cattle Egrets and 36 Shorelarks. |

| Rarities today comprised a Snowy Owl still on the Orkney Isles on Eday, the
Dusky Thrush in Derbyshire, Blue Rock Thrush in Gloucestershire,
Desert Wheatear in Devon, Red-breasted Goose in Lancashire, Eastern Black Redstarts in both Cleveland and Cornwall,
Stejneger's Stonechat in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs in Dorset, Lesser Scaups in both County Cavan and Cornwall, and Ferruginous Ducks in
both County Durham and Norfolk. Scarcities included Pallas's Warbler and Little Bunting (both Suffolk), Rose-coloured Starling (West Sussex), Richard's Pipit (Gloucestershire), Temminck's Stint (Staffordshire), American Wigeon (Dumfries), Glossy Ibis (Leicestershire), Kumlien's Gull (Cornwall), two Surf Scoters, three each of both Yellow-browed Warbler and Ring-necked Duck, five of Ring-billed Gull and Lapland Bunting, 36 Shorelarks, and 43 Cattle Egrets. The reported Orphean Warbler in Suffolk at Newmarket showed again and proved to be a Lesser Whitethroat, probably of an eastern form. |

| Sunday 8th January 2017 | ||
|
||
| Bird of the day was an Orphean warbler species in Newmarket, Suffolk,
which was identified from photographs this evening. It is difficult to be
certain from the available images, but the underpart colouration suggests
it is likely to be a Western Orphean Warbler.
Other new rarities today included a Red-breasted Goose at Cockerham, Lancashire, and a Snowy Owl on Eday, Orkney, yesterday. Lingering rarities present today included the Dusky Thrush in Derbyshire, Blue Rock Thrush in Gloucestershire, Killdeer in Shetland, Hudsonian Whimbrel, Eastern Black Redstart and Lesser Scaup in Cornwall, Northern Harrier in Orkney, American Coot in the Western Isles, Stejneger's Stonechat in Kent, Desert Wheatear and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, Eastern Black Redstart in Cleveland, Hooded Merganser in Clyde, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Ferruginous Duck in Norfolk, Pallid Harrier in Yorkshire, Long-billed Dowitcher in County Wexford and Lesser Yellowlegs in Dorset. |
