| The highlight of the day was the relocation of the adult Stilt Sandpiper
in Northumberland, where it was found at Druridge Pools NR. New discoveries
included a Fea's Petrel past Malin Head, County Donegal, a Bee-eater
at Sea Palling, Norfolk and a Black Kite near Colchester, Essex.
Lingering rarities included the Black-winged Pratincole on the Ouse Washes, Cambridgeshire, single White-rumped Sandpipers at Frampton Marsh RSPB, Lincolnshire and Hickling Broad NWT, Norfolk, Pacific Golden Plover on North Ronaldsay, Orkney, five Black-winged Stilts in Sussex (relocating to Pulborough Brooks RSPB) and a single in Suffolk at Great Livermere, three adult Bee-eaters at Niton, Isle of Wight and the Bonaparte's Gull at Oare Marshes KWT, Kent. |

| New discoveries today included a White-rumped Sandpiper in Lincolnshire at Frampton Marsh,
Red-footed Falcon in County Wexford near Lady's Island Lake, Wilson's Petrel
off the Isles of Scilly, and a Black-winged Stilt flew over Blashford Lakes, Hampshire. Other rarities comprised the Black-winged Pratincole again in Cambridgeshire, Pacific Golden Plover still in Staffordshire, White-rumped Sandpiper in Norfolk, Ross's Gull in Devon, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Laughing Gull in County Cork, five Black-winged Stilts together in West Sussex, and at least four Bee-eaters still at the nest on the Isle of Wight. Scarcities included the first Melodious Warbler of the year and Hoopoe (both Dorset), Night Heron (Warwickshire), Temminck's Stint (Norfolk), Ring-billed Gull (County Galway), Red-backed Shrike (Buckinghamshire and Lincolnshire), Pectoral Sandpiper (Cheshire and Hampshire), Spotted Crake (Cheshire (2) and Norfolk (2)), three Cattle Egrets (together in Gloucestershire), and a total of five Glossy Ibises. Other notable seabirds were nine Cory's Shearwaters between Dorset and the Isles of Scilly, Great Shearwater off Scilly, and a Long-tailed Skua passing Essex. |

| The fourth Franklin's Gull for Norfolk was discovered at Breydon Water
early morning, remaining on view for a little over two hours. This is the second
for the site, following the county's first in 1991, with Titchwell RSPB claiming
the other two records in 1992 and 1998. Nearby, an adult White-rumped
Sandpiper was on Rush Hill Scrape, Hickling (with another still at
Snettisham RSPB), and a Black Kite flew over Fakenham early afternoon. A
pratincole species was seen in flight near St Osyth, Essex.
Lingering rarities seen today included the Pacific Golden Plover in Staffordshire, Ross's Gull in Devon, four Black-winged Stilts in Sussex and two Bee-eaters on the Isle of Wight, whilst the Swinhoe's Petrel was trapped again on Fair Isle last night. |

| New rarities discovered today comprised a White-rumped Sandpiper in Norfolk at Snettisham, whilst a
Black Kite flew over Stiffkey. In Suffolk a Red-footed Falcon was seen briefly at Minsmere. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present comprised the Pacific Golden Plover still in Staffordshire, Ross's Gull in Devon, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, the family of five Black-winged Stilts in West Sussex, and at least four Bee-eaters still at the nest on the Isle of Wight. Scarcities included Red-backed Shrike (Buckinghamshire), Night Heron (Warwickshire), Great Shearwater (Isle of Scilly), Dotterel (East Sussex), Ring-necked Duck (Angus), Pectoral Sandpiper (Aberdeenshire and Leicestershire), two Cattle Egrets (together in Gloucestershire), Spotted Crake (Cheshire (4) and Norfolk), and three Glossy Ibises (Lincolnshire, London and County Louth). |

| New rarities discovered today were a brief Black-winged Pratincole in East Sussex at Cuckmere Haven, and a
Fea's Petrel at sea off Galley Head, County Cork. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Stilt Sandpiper in Northumberland, Pacific Golden Plovers in Staffordshire and on the Orkney Isles, White-rumped Sandpipers in Lincolnshire and on the Shetland Isles, Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk (3) and West Sussex (3), Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Laughing Gull in County Cork, whilst the breeding Bee-eaters remained on the Isle of Wight. Scarcities included Red-backed Shrike (Buckinghamshire), Temminck's Stint (Essex), Great Shearwater (Cornwall), two Cattle Egrets (together in Gloucestershire), three Surf Scoters (together in Aberdeenshire), Spotted Crake (Cheshire, Hertfordshire and Norfolk), and four Glossy Ibises. |

| Tuesday 29th July 2014 | ||

| New rarities today all came in the form of waders along the east coast. Top
of the bill went to a Stilt Sandpiper found at Cresswell in
Northumberland and still present this evening. A Broad-billed Sandpiper
found at Gibraltar Point was not so obliging, as it disappeared late morning.
This site also held a White-rumped Sandpiper for it's second day, and
another White-rumped Sandpiper was found today at Pool of Virkie on
Mainland Shetland. In Suffolk the six Black-winged Stilts (presumably
from Cavenham) were seen in flight near Great Livermere this evening.
Other lingering rarities included the much appreciated Pacific Golden Plover in Staffordshire, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Laughing Gull in County Cork, family of Bee-eaters on the Isle of Wight and the Swinhoe's Petrel which was trapped yet again on Fair Isle last night. There was a Spotted Crake at Burton Mere in Cheshire that was seen with chicks this afternoon, whilst the bird at Titchwell in Norfolk was still present but played hard to get. The adult Long-tailed Skua was still at Thornham in Norfolk this morning, a Cory's Shearwater flew past Lossiemouth in Moray and Nairn and two Great Shearwaters were seen from the Scillonian Ferry. The Night Heron was still in Warwickshire and Glossy Ibises were still to be found in Lincolnshire, Cumbria and Leicestershire. |

| Monday 28th July 2014 | ||

| News was released today of a breeding attempt currently being made by
Bee-eaters at Wydcombe Estate NT on the Isle of Wight. There are three
adults tending a nest containing an unknown number of young. This is the first
publicised breeding attempt of Bee-eaters since 2005, when a nest containing
young was predated by a fox in Herefordshire, with the last successful breeding
occurring in 2002, when two young fledged in County Durham.
Further north, a Collared Pratincole was found at Castle Island, Northumberland mid afternoon (with no sign of the bird at Minsmere, Suffolk), and a White-rumped Sandpiper was at Gibraltar Point NNR, Lincolnshire. Lingering rarities seen today included single Pacific Golden Plovers in Staffordshire and Orkney, Black-winged Stilt families in Suffolk and Sussex and the Ross's Gull in Devon. Scarcity highlights included the Night Heron in Warwickshire, Spotted Crake and Long-tailed Skua in Norfolk and the White-winged Black Tern in Cleveland, whilst news was also released today of a breeding attempt made by a pair of Marsh Warblers at Spurn, Yorkshire. |

| The list of lingering rarities seen today was very similar to that of
yesterday, and included the Pacific Golden Plover in Staffordshire,
Black-winged Pratincole in Cambridgeshire, Collared Pratincole and
six Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk, four Black-winged Stilts in
Sussex, Ross's Gull in Devon and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent.
Scarcities included the Night Heron in Warwickshire, White-winged Black Tern in Cleveland, Red-necked Phalarope in Norfolk, Temminck's Stint in Cambridgeshire, Honey Buzzard in Nottinghamshire, two Cory's Shearwaters in County Mayo and three Surf Scoters in Aberdeenshire. |

| The first Pacific Golden Plover for Staffordshire was discovered mid
morning, and remained at Middleton Lakes RSPB, Drayton Bassett all day. Further
north, a White-rumped Sandpiper was at Cresswell Pond NWT,
Northumberland.
Lingering rarities included the Black-winged Pratincole in Cambridgeshire, Collared Pratincole and six Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk, four Black-winged Stilts in Sussex, Lesser Yellowlegs in Lincolnshire, Ross's Gull in Devon and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent. Scarcities included the Night Heron in Warwickshire, an adult Long-tailed Skua in the Titchwell area of Norfolk, an adult Sabine's Gull at Paxton Pits NR and a Temminck's Stint on the Ouse Washes, Cambridgeshire, an adult White-winged Black Tern in Cleveland, a Purple Heron at Claxton Marshes, Norfolk and two Surf Scoters off Blackdog, Aberdeenshire. |

| The highlight of the day was the discovery of the first Aquatic Warbler of the autumn, trapped and ringed at Lytchett Bay, Dorset. Rarities elsewhere comprised the
Swinhoe's Petrel trapped again on Fair Isle, Black-winged Pratincole again in Cambridgeshire,
Pacific Golden Plover still on the Orkney Isles, Collared Pratincole in Suffolk,
Lesser Yellowlegs in Lincolnshire, Ross's Gull in Devon, Laughing Gull
in County Cork, Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, and Black-winged Stilt families still in Suffolk (6) and West Sussex (5). Scarcities included Night Heron (Warwickshire), Cory's Shearwater (Cornwall), Temminck's Stint (Cambridgeshire), Ring-necked Duck (Angus), Cattle Egret (County Down), Glossy Ibis (Cumbria, Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire), eight Great White Egrets, 11 Caspian Gulls and a total of 56 Spoonbills. |
