| The highlight of the day was the discovery of a Black-winged Stilt in Oxfordshire at Standlake Common. In Highland
a White-billed Diver was located at Burghead. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present comprised the Northern Waterthrush on the Isles of Scilly, Greater Yellowlegs and King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Black-winged Stilt in Dorset, Blue-winged Teals in Clyde, Cornwall and Somerset, Spotted Sandpiper and two Long-billed Dowitchers in Somerset, another White-billed Diver in Highland, Lesser Scaup in Glamorgan, Richardson's Canada Goose in Argyll, Little Bunting in Devon, Ferruginous Duck in Wiltshire, and Glossy Ibises in Dorset, Essex, Lancashire, Pembrokeshire, Suffolk and the Western Isles. Scarcities included Serin (Suffolk), Hoopoe (Norfolk), Rose-coloured Starling (Hampshire), Ring-necked Duck (Kent and Lincolnshire) and Cattle Egret (Dorset and COunty Wexford (2)). |

| Wednesday 11th April 2012 | ||

| The highlight of the day was the arrival of a Black-winged Stilt in Dorset at Radipole Lake, it having migrated fifty miles south overnight from Chew Valley Lake, Somerset. Elsewhere, new rarities included a
White-billed Diver in Highland at Poolewe, a Ferruginous Duck in Wiltshire at Langford Lakes, and a
Blue-winged Teal reported in Somerset, at Ham Wall. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present today comprised the Thayer's Gull in Lincolnshire, Greater Yellowlegs and King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Red-breasted Goose in Dumfries and Galloway, Spotted Sandpiper and two Long-billed Dowitchers in Somerset, Blue-winged Teal in Clyde, Bonaparte's Gull in County Antrim, Falcated Duck in County Mayo, Richardson's Canada Goose in Argyll, and Glossy Ibises in Dorset, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire (3), Suffolk and the Western Isles. Significant late news concerned a Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll present on Islay on 10th April 2012. |

| Rarities today comprised the Northern Waterthrush still on the Isles of Scilly,
Greater Yellowlegs in Aberdeenshire, Black Duck and Falcated Duck in County Mayo,
Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler in Dorset, Blue-winged Teals in both
Clyde and Cornwall, Black-winged Stilt in County Wexford, Spotted Sandpiper in Somerset,
Long-billed Dowitchers in Dumfries and Galloway and Somerset (2), Little Bunting in Devon, and
Glossy Ibises in Cleveland, Dorset, Essex, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire (3) and the Isle of Wight. Scarcities were headed by two White-spotted Bluethroats at Spurn, East Yorkshire, whilst a Purple Heron remained in Devon, a Night Heron was in County Cork, Rose-coloured Starling in Hampshire, Richard's Pipit in Dorset, Cattle Egret in Essex, American Wigeon in County Antrim, Surf Scoters in both County Cork and Cornwall, and seven Green-winged Teals were noted between Hampshire, County Londonderry and Aberdeenshire. |

| Saturday 7th April 2012 | ||
|
||
| Spring rarities discovered today included a Black Kite in Shetland, at
Virkie then Boddam, and an Alpine Swift at Kilcoole, County Wicklow. At
least two Glossy Ibises were seen in Hampshire, together at Pennington
Marshes and singles over Lepe at Sturt Pond, whilst late news from yesterday
concerned a Black-winged Stilt on the Isle of Wight.
Lingering rarities still present today included Greater Yellowlegs, King Eider and White-billed Diver in Aberdeenshire, Falcated Duck in County Mayo, Penduline Tit in Lancashire, Black-winged Stilt in County Wexford, Blue-winged Teal in Clyde and Cornwall, Little Bunting in Devon, Lesser Scaup and Ferruginous Duck in Glamorgan and two Long-billed Dowitchers and Spotted Sandpiper in Somerset. Other Glossy Ibises were in Pembrokeshire (3), Dorset (2) and Suffolk. The juvenile Thayer's Gull in Lincolnshire was not reliably seen all day. |

| The highlight of the day was the discovery of a white morph Gyr on Benbecula, Western Isles. Elsewhere, a
Ferruginous Duck was located at Lisvane Reservoir, Glamorgan, and a Penduline Tit
was heard calling at Minsmere, Suffolk. Lingering rarities comprised the Thayer's Gull still in Lincolnshire, Greater Yellowlegs and King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Black Duck and Falcated Duck in County Mayo, Red-breasted Goose in Dumfries and Galloway, Blue-winged Teal in Clyde, Black-winged Stilt in County Wexford, Long-billed Dowitchers in Dumfries and Galloway, Somerset (2) and County Wexford (2), Lesser Scaup in Glamorgan, Little Bunting in Devon, Ross's Goose in Cumbria, and Glossy Ibises in Cleveland, Dorset (2), Essex, Pembrokeshire (3) and Suffolk. Scarcities included both Purple Heron and Hoopoe in Devon, Surf Scoter in Cornwall, Pectoral Sandpiper in Ayrshire, Cattle Egret in Essex and six Kumlien's Gulls together in County Donegal. |

| The only new rarity today was a Caspian Tern in County Louth, with the
main news being the lingering juvenile Thayer's Gull in Lincolnshire.
Despite being mobile around Elsham, it remained in the area from late morning,
and often showed well.
Other rarities confirmed as still present included the Falcated Duck and Black Duck in County Mayo, Greater Yellowlegs, White-billed Diver and King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Black-winged Stilt in County Wexford, two Long-billed Dowitchers and a Spotted Sandpiper in Somerset, Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler in Dorset, Lesser Scaup in Glamorgan and Little Bunting in Devon. Glossy Ibises were in Pembrokeshire (3), Dorset (2) Essex and Suffolk. |

| The highlight of the day was the confirmation of the identification a juvenile
Thayer's Gull in Lincolnshire, present again briefly in a field at Elsham. It follows strong candidates discovered in England, in Oxfordshire on 6th December 2007-6th January 2008, relocating to Derbyshire on 16th February-17th February 2008, and in Essex on 6th November
2010. In Ireland records of Thayer's Gulls have been accepted from County Cork (1990), County Antrim (1997), County Donegal (1998 and 2003) and County Mayo (1998-1999 and 2005), and more recently,
further birds have been located in County Galway (2010 and 2011), County Fermanagh (2012) and County Mayo (2012). Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Northern Waterthrush on the Isles of Scilly, Greater Yellowlegs, King Eider, Ross's Goose in Aberdeenshire, Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler in Dorset, Bonaparte's Gull in Gloucestershire, Spotted Sandpiper in Somerset, Black-winged Stilt in County Wexford, Long-billed Dowitchers in both Carmarthenshire and Somerset (2), Lesser Scaups in Glamorgan and Gloucestershire, Falcated Duck in County Mayo, Little Bunting in Devon, and Glossy Ibises in Essex and the Western Isles. Spring scarcities included a Purple Heron in Devon, four Hoopoes - in County Cork, Cornwall (2) and Devon - and four Green-winged Teals. |

| Tuesday 3rd April 2012 | ||
|
||
| A smart male Pallid Harrier flew over Slimbridge WWT, Gloucestershire
mid afternoon, but poor weather restricted viewing, and the bird was only
retrospectively identified from the single photo taken. A juvenile gull briefly
near Brigg, Lincolnshire looks very good for Thayer's Gull.
Lingering rarities seen today included the Falcated Duck in County Mayo, House Crow in County Cork, Black-winged Stilt in County Wexford, Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler in Dorset, Bonaparte's Gull and Lesser Scaup in Gloucestershire (with another of the latter in Glamorgan), Blue-winged Teal in Cornwall, King Eider in Aberdeenshire, two Long-billed Dowitchers and Spotted Sandpiper in Somerset, single Glossy Ibises in the Western Isles, Suffolk, Essex, Cleveland and County Cork, and Little Bunting in Devon. |
