The highlight of the day was the continued presence of the Baird's Sandpiper in Nottinghamshire. Elsewhere, lingering rarities included the
Whiskered Tern in Cleveland, Lesser Yellowlegs in Cheshire, Alpine Swift
on the Orkney Isles, Glossy Ibis in County Wexford and Ferruginous Duck in Suffolk. An
American Golden Plover was seen briefly along the Norfolk/Lincolnshire border at the mouth of the River Nene. Scarcities today comprised two each of both Great White Egret and Ring-billed Gull, Buff-breasted Sandpiper in Aberdeenshire, Kentish Plover, White-spotted Bluethroat and Pectoral Sandpiper in Norfolk, Serin in London, Purple Heron and Cattle Egret together in Kent and a Ring-necked Duck in Fife, whilst at least 34 Balearic Shearwaters were recorded from coastal watchpoints in eight counties between Cornwall, County Durham and County Mayo. |
