Pair ovipositing and another male flying past them (top left). These are the first ever twitchable in UK since the 1953 floods destroyed all the known breeding sites, in Essex, which had only just been discovered in 1946. Thought to be extinct in the UK for almost 60 years, they were re-discovered at three sites on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, in 2010 and are still present 2011. The site where I photographed these three individuals is not actually on the reserve itself, but is just south of the reserve entrance near the new A249 bridge. Currently the only known publicly accessible site.
