| New rarities today all came in the form of waders along the east coast. Top
of the bill went to a Stilt Sandpiper found at Cresswell in
Northumberland and still present this evening. A Broad-billed Sandpiper
found at Gibraltar Point was not so obliging, as it disappeared late morning.
This site also held a White-rumped Sandpiper for it's second day, and
another White-rumped Sandpiper was found today at Pool of Virkie on
Mainland Shetland. In Suffolk the six Black-winged Stilts (presumably
from Cavenham) were seen in flight near Great Livermere this evening.
Other lingering rarities included the much appreciated Pacific Golden Plover in Staffordshire, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Laughing Gull in County Cork, family of Bee-eaters on the Isle of Wight and the Swinhoe's Petrel which was trapped yet again on Fair Isle last night. There was a Spotted Crake at Burton Mere in Cheshire that was seen with chicks this afternoon, whilst the bird at Titchwell in Norfolk was still present but played hard to get. The adult Long-tailed Skua was still at Thornham in Norfolk this morning, a Cory's Shearwater flew past Lossiemouth in Moray and Nairn and two Great Shearwaters were seen from the Scillonian Ferry. The Night Heron was still in Warwickshire and Glossy Ibises were still to be found in Lincolnshire, Cumbria and Leicestershire. |

| Monday 28th July 2014 | ||

| News was released today of a breeding attempt currently being made by
Bee-eaters at Wydcombe Estate NT on the Isle of Wight. There are three
adults tending a nest containing an unknown number of young. This is the first
publicised breeding attempt of Bee-eaters since 2005, when a nest containing
young was predated by a fox in Herefordshire, with the last successful breeding
occurring in 2002, when two young fledged in County Durham.
Further north, a Collared Pratincole was found at Castle Island, Northumberland mid afternoon (with no sign of the bird at Minsmere, Suffolk), and a White-rumped Sandpiper was at Gibraltar Point NNR, Lincolnshire. Lingering rarities seen today included single Pacific Golden Plovers in Staffordshire and Orkney, Black-winged Stilt families in Suffolk and Sussex and the Ross's Gull in Devon. Scarcity highlights included the Night Heron in Warwickshire, Spotted Crake and Long-tailed Skua in Norfolk and the White-winged Black Tern in Cleveland, whilst news was also released today of a breeding attempt made by a pair of Marsh Warblers at Spurn, Yorkshire. |

| The list of lingering rarities seen today was very similar to that of
yesterday, and included the Pacific Golden Plover in Staffordshire,
Black-winged Pratincole in Cambridgeshire, Collared Pratincole and
six Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk, four Black-winged Stilts in
Sussex, Ross's Gull in Devon and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent.
Scarcities included the Night Heron in Warwickshire, White-winged Black Tern in Cleveland, Red-necked Phalarope in Norfolk, Temminck's Stint in Cambridgeshire, Honey Buzzard in Nottinghamshire, two Cory's Shearwaters in County Mayo and three Surf Scoters in Aberdeenshire. |

| Saturday 26th July 2014 | ||

| The first Pacific Golden Plover for Staffordshire was discovered mid
morning, and remained at Middleton Lakes RSPB, Drayton Bassett all day. Further
north, a White-rumped Sandpiper was at Cresswell Pond NWT,
Northumberland.
Lingering rarities included the Black-winged Pratincole in Cambridgeshire, Collared Pratincole and six Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk, four Black-winged Stilts in Sussex, Lesser Yellowlegs in Lincolnshire, Ross's Gull in Devon and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent. Scarcities included the Night Heron in Warwickshire, an adult Long-tailed Skua in the Titchwell area of Norfolk, an adult Sabine's Gull at Paxton Pits NR and a Temminck's Stint on the Ouse Washes, Cambridgeshire, an adult White-winged Black Tern in Cleveland, a Purple Heron at Claxton Marshes, Norfolk and two Surf Scoters off Blackdog, Aberdeenshire. |

| The highlight of the day was the discovery of the first Aquatic Warbler of the autumn, trapped and ringed at Lytchett Bay, Dorset. Rarities elsewhere comprised the
Swinhoe's Petrel trapped again on Fair Isle, Black-winged Pratincole again in Cambridgeshire,
Pacific Golden Plover still on the Orkney Isles, Collared Pratincole in Suffolk,
Lesser Yellowlegs in Lincolnshire, Ross's Gull in Devon, Laughing Gull
in County Cork, Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, and Black-winged Stilt families still in Suffolk (6) and West Sussex (5). Scarcities included Night Heron (Warwickshire), Cory's Shearwater (Cornwall), Temminck's Stint (Cambridgeshire), Ring-necked Duck (Angus), Cattle Egret (County Down), Glossy Ibis (Cumbria, Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire), eight Great White Egrets, 11 Caspian Gulls and a total of 56 Spoonbills. |

| Rarities today comprised the Pacific Golden Plover still on the Orkney Isles, Collared Pratincole in Suffolk,
Ross's Gull in Devon, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs on Lincolnshire, and
Black-winged Stilt in Suffolk (3) and West Sussex. Scarcities included Night Heron (Warwickshire), Cattle Egret (County Down), Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire (3)), and Glossy Ibis (Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire). Pelagic news concerned five Wilson's Petrels, two Cory's and 15 Great Shearwaters off County Cork, and off the Isles of Scilly, three Cory's and four Great Shearwaters. The Bufflehead in Suffolk remained at Trimley Marshes, but was seen to be bearing a colour ring indicating that it is an escape. |

| New arrivals today included an adult Baird's Sandpiper in Hampshire at
Pennington Marshes, an adult Pacific Golden Plover in Orkney on North
Ronaldsay and a Bee-eater over Taynton, Gloucestershire.
Lingering rarities included the female Bufflehead, Collared Pratincole and five Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk, Ross's Gull in Devon and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent. Scarcity highlights were a Night Heron in Warwickshire, a Pomarine Skua in Borders and single Honey Buzzards in Kent and Dorset. |

| Tuesday 22nd July 2014 | ||

| The identification of a female Bufflehead was confirmed at Trimley
Marshes SWT, Suffolk today, after being first found on Saturday. It is not known
whether she has a green ring on her left leg (which the recent wandering escape
wears), and could become the third record for the county if she doesn't.
At least four Wilson's Petrels were seen from a boat off Galley Head, County Cork, together with five Great Shearwaters and 11 Cory's Shearwaters. Lingering rarities seen today included the Collared Pratincole and at least one Black-winged Stilt in Suffolk, the family of five Black-winged Stilts in Sussex, the Ross's Gull in Devon and the Bonaparte's Gull in Kent. |

| Lingering rarities present today included the Collared Pratincole and
six Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk, a further five Black-winged Stilts in
Sussex, Ross's Gull in Devon, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent and
Lesser Yellowlegs in Lincolnshire.
Scarcity highlights included two Red-backed Shrikes, a Montagu's Harrier, three Honey Buzzards, a Ring-necked Duck, eight Glossy Ibises and ten Cory's Shearwaters. |

| Continuing rarities today comprised the Black-winged Pratincole still in Cambridgeshire, Collared
Pratincole and family party of six Black-winged Stilts in Suffolk, Ross's Gull in Devon,
Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Laughing Gull in County Cork, Lesser Yellowlegs in Lincolnshire, and
the family of five Black-winged Stilts in West Sussex. Otherwise, a Black Kite
was seen briefly in Berkshire. Scarcities included Short-toed Lark (London), Long-tailed Skua (Lothian), White Stork (Oxfordshire), Red-backed Shrike and Temminck's Stint (both Norfolk), Spotted Crake (Dorset and Gloucestershire), Glossy Ibis (Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Oxfordshire) and nine Great White Egrets. Late news concerned a Black-winged Stilt at Shapwick Heath, Somerset on 13th July. |
