| Two White-throated Sparrows were discovered today; one at Landguard NR
(Suffolk) and another at Otter Ferry (Argyll). Elsewhere new rarities comprised
a Laughing Gull on Fair Isle (where the Bridled Tern remained), Black Kites in
Essex, Wiltshire and Surrey, Bonaparte's Gull on Isles of Scilly and at least two
Bee-eaters in
Suffolk.
Lingering rarities included Short-toed Eagle in East Sussex, Citrine Wagtail in Highland, Greenish Warbler in Lothian, Lesser Scaup in Cheshire, family of five Black-winged Stilts in West Sussex and Blue-winged Teal in Aberdeenshire. The best of the rest included American Wigeon (Western Isles), Rose-coloured Starling (Suffolk), Red-breasted Flycatcher (Argyll), White Stork (Somerset), Grey Phalarope (Orkney), White-winged Black Tern (Surrey) and Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire) in addition to two Golden Orioles and three Glossy Ibises. |

| The highlight of the day was the continued presence of three mega rarities, with the
Short-toed Eagle still showing well in East Sussex at Ashdown Forest, the territorial
Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk at Burnham Overy Dunes, and the Bridled Tern on Fair Isle, Shetland Isles. Elsewhere, a Citrine Wagtail was discovered in Highland at Balnakeil, a Ross's Gull was reported briefly in Lincolnshire, the Black Scoter remained in Cleveland, as did the Lesser Grey Shrike on the Shetland Isles, Ross's Gull and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, Blue-winged Teal in Aberdeenshire, Greenish Warbler in Lothian, Western Subalpine Warbler on the Orkney Isles, and the family of five Black-winged Stilts in West Sussex. Scarcities included White-winged Black Tern (Anglesey then Merseyside), Rose-coloured Starling (Suffolk), Marsh Warbler (Orkney Isles), Common Rosefinch (Shetland isles), Hoopoe (East Yorkshire), Purple Heron (Somerset), and five Glossy Ibises. |

| The highlight of the day was the identification of a Black Scoter in Cleveland off Redcar, where it had first been seen yesterday. Elsewhere, a
Western Subalpine Warbler was new on North Ronaldsay, Orkney Isles. Lingering rarities comprised the Short-toed Eagle still in East Sussex, both Bridled Tern and Lesser Grey Shrike on the Shetland Isles, Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk, Ross's Gull and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, Lesser Scaup in Cheshire, and family groups of Black-winged Stilt in both Kent and West Sussex. Scarcities included White-winged Black Tern (Anglesey), Golden Oriole (Isle of Scilly), Common Rosefinch (County Galway), Grey Phalarope (Orkney Isles), Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire), Marsh Warbler (two on the Shetland Isles), Rose-coloured Starling (County Galway and Suffolk), and four Glossy Ibises. |

| The highlight of the day was the discovery of a Bridled Tern in an Arctic Tern colony on Fair Isle. Elsewhere on the Shetland Isles, a
Lesser Grey Shrike was found on Unst at Baltasound. Lingering rarities were headlined by the Short-toed Eagle still in the Ashdown Forest, East Sussex, whilst the Scops Owl remained on the Orkney Isles, as did the territorial Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk, Ross's Gull and Bonaparte's Gull together in Devon, Greenish Warbler in Lothian, Blue-winged Teal and Savi's Warbler together in Aberdeenshire, the family of five Black-winged Stilts in West Sussex, and now two Lesser Scaups in Cheshire. Scarcities included White-winged Black Tern (Anglesey), Red-breasted Flycatcher and American Wigeon (Western Isles), Red-necked Phalarope (Norfolk), Shorelark (Cornwall), Marsh Warbler (Orkney Isles), Hoopoe (Wiltshire), Pectoral Sandpiper (West Yorkshire), Rose-coloured Starling (County Galway and Suffolk), and Glossy Ibis (Lincolnshire and Perrth and Kinross). |

| The highlight of the day was, once again, the wandering second-summer
Short-toed Eagle. Today it was seen back in the Ashdown Forest in East
Sussex, in the same area as on the 10th June, where it spent the afternoon
before landing out of view mid evening.
Further north, a Scops Owl was flushed into a mistnet at Holland House, North Ronaldsay early morning. Other lingering rarities included the Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk, Ross's Gull and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, Greenish Warbler in Lothian, Savi's Warbler in Suffolk, Blue-winged Teal and King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Lesser Scaups in Cheshire and County Derry and Black-winged Stilts in Kent (six) and Sussex (five). |

| Saturday 14th June 2014 | ||
|
||
| New discoveries today included a Rustic Bunting at Porth Hellick,
Isles of Scilly, a Blue-winged Teal at Loch of Strathbeg RSPB,
Aberdeenshire and a Black Kite near Cosham, Hampshire. The
Black-winged Stilt total increased to five at Medmerry, Sussex and six at
Cliffe, Kent.
Lingering rarities still present today included the Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk, singing Savi's Warblers in Suffolk and Aberdeenshire, Greenish Warbler in Lothian, Ross's Gull in Devon and Lesser Scaup in Cheshire. Scarcity highlights involved a Rose-coloured Starling, a Serin, a Green-winged Teal, two Red-backed Shikes, three Long-tailed Skuas, three American Wigeon and five Marsh Warblers. |

| Friday 13th June 2014 | ||

| In Hampshire the Short-toed Eagle reappeared in the Hatchet Pond area
of the New Forest, being seen mid morning and again mid afternoon. Further
north, the Black-winged Pratincole made a brief appearance at Saltholme
RSPB, Cleveland, before it flew south.
New discoveries today included a singing Thrush Nightingale on Portland, Dorset, a Western Subalpine Warbler and a Blyth's Reed Warbler on Fair Isle, Shetland (with another of the latter also at Virkie, Shetland), a second Bonaparte's Gull at Bowling Green Marsh RSPB, Devon (joining the long staying Bonaparte's and Ross's Gulls) and a Black Kite over Culswick, Shetland. Another Black Kite was found in Suffolk, but was seen to be bearing a white ring, and is therefore assumed to be of captive origin. The number of Black-winged Stilts at the two breeding sites increased, with three eggs hatching at Cliffe, Kent, and two hatching at Medmerry, Sussex. Other lingering rarities seen today included the Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk, Savi's Warbler in Suffolk, Lesser Scaup in Cheshire and King Eider in Aberdeenshire. |

| Highlight of the day was the discovery of a Black-winged Pratincole at
Hauxley NR (Northumberland). Elsewhere new rarities included a flyover
Black Kite in Hampshire and Lesser Scaup in Co Derry.
Lingering rarities included Spectacled Warbler (Norfolk), Ross's and Bonaparte's Gulls (Devon), two Black-winged Stilts (West Sussex), Lesser Scaup (Cheshire), King Eider (Aberdeenshire), Greenish Warbler (Lothian) and Savi's Warbler (Suffolk). The best of the rest included Woodchat Shrike (Pembrokeshire), Ring-necked Duck (Angus), American Wigeon (Western Isles), Purple Heron (Dumfries & Galloway), Red-backed Shrike (Shetland), Marsh Warbler (Shetland), Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire), Shorelark (Devon), Night Herons (Gloucestershire and Glamorgan), Red-necked Phalaropes (Western Isles [2] and Surrey) and Glossy Ibises (Gloucestershire [3], Leicestershire and South Yorkshire). |

| Once again it was Short-toed Eagle that made the headlines today, with
a brief encounter in Cambridgeshire at Swaffham Bulbeck early this morning, and then in
Essex. where one flew south southwest over Bradwell-on-Sea late morning. Elsewhere, lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the territorial Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk, Ross's Gull and Bonaparte's Gull together in Devon, Greenish Warbler and two Two-barred Crossbills all together in Lothian, single Savi's Warblers in both Aberdeenshire and Suffolk, a Bee-eater heard on the Wirral, and pairs of Black-winged Stilt in both Kent and West Sussex. Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (Western Isles), Icterine Warbler (Lincolnshire), Marsh Warbler (Orkney Isles), Hoopoe (Aberdeenshire), two each of Common Rosefinch, Red-backed Shrike and Ring-necked Duck, and three Glossy Ibises. |

| The highlight of the day was the relocation - once again - of the Short-toed Eagle in southern
England, today at Ashdown Forest, East Sussex during the morning. Elsewhere, a Black Stork flew over Scalby, North Yorkshie, a Bee-eater flew over Portland, Dorset, and in Lothian seven
Two-barred Crossbills accompanied the Greenish Warbler at Tyninghame Bay. Other lingering rarities confirmed as still present comprised the Spectacled Warbler in Norfolk, Squacco Heron in Cambridgeshire, Ross's Gull and Bonaparte's Gull together in Devon, King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Lesser Scaup in Cheshire, Savi's Warbler in Suffolk, and a pair of Black-winged Stilts in West Sussex. Scarcities inclided Golden Oriole (Cheshire), Common Rosefinch (East Yorkshire), Red-backed Shrike (Shetland Isles), Ring-necked Duck (Angus), two American Wigeons, and three Glossy Ibises. |
