The highlight of the day was a smart adult Semipalmated Sandpiper in
Lothian at Tyninghame Bay, where it showed well this afternoon. This is the
second record for the county, following a juvenile at the same site in 2010.
Lingering rarities still present today included the Roller in Orkney, Long-billed Dowitcher in Gloucestershire, Bee-eater in Hampshire, Iberian Chiffchaff in Somerset and Glossy Ibis in Pembrokeshire. Scarcity highlights included a Buff-breasted Sandpiper (Cheshire), two Purple Herons (Kent and Gloucestershire), three White-winged Black Terns (Surrey, Suffolk and Northumberland), three Pectoral Sandpipers (Hampshire, Aberdeenshire and County Durham), four White Storks (Somerset), a Long-tailed Skua (Dorset), a Sabine's Gull (Highland) and a Grey Phalarope (Pembrokeshire). |

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present today comprised the Roller
on the Orkney Isles, Snowy Owl in County Donegal, Iberian Chiffchaff
in Somerset, Long-billed Dowitcher in Gloucestershire and Glossy Ibis
in County Wexford. Elsewhere, brief encounters included a Bee-eater in Hampshire at Titchfield Haven, and
a flock of six Glossy Ibises at Llanllwni, Carmarthenshire . Scarcities were represented by Buff-breasted Sandpiper (Cheshire), Purple Heron (Gloucestershire), White-winged Black Tern (Surrey), Surf Scoter (Aberdeenshire), White Stork (4 together in Somerset), Pectoral Sandpiper (South Yorkshire), Sabine's Gull (2 off Highland), and Great White Egret (Norfolk). |

The highlight of the day was the continued presence of the Roller on
Orkney, remaining near Heddle all day.
Other lingering rarities today included the Greater Yellowlegs at St John's Loch, Highland, Long-billed Dowitcher at Slimbridge WWT, Gloucestershire, Iberian Chiffchaff at Porlock and Ferruginous Duck at Blagdon Lake, both Somerset, Snowy Owl on The Mullet, County Mayo, and single Glossy Ibises in Pembrokeshire, Essex and County Wexford. |

The highlight of the day was the discovery of a Roller on the Orkney Isles, at Finstown, Mainland: the twelfth record for the the archipelago, but the first
there since 1966. Other rarities noted today comprised the territorial Iberian Chiffchaff still in Somerset at Porlock, Long-billed Dowitcher in Gloucestershire at Slimbridge, Glossy Ibis in County Wexford at Tacumshin, and a Snowy Owl reported on Barra, Western Isles. Scarcities included the Short-toed Lark still in Norfolk, Red-backed Shrike in Hampshire, Hoopoes in both County Cork and Wirral, and single Pectoral Sandpipers in Aberdeenshire, County Antrim and South Yorkshire. Significant late news from yesterday concerned a Caspian Tern in Suffolk at Minsmere, the Snowy Owl still in County Donegal, and the Ferruginous Duck in Somerset. |

Rarities today comprised the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper still on the Orkney Isles,
Long-billed Dowitcher in Gloucestershire, and in Somerset both the territorial
Iberian Chiffchaff and Ferruginous Duck remained. Scarcities included Surf Scoter (Angus), Ring-billed Gull (County Down), Pectoral Sandpiper (Northumberland) and Great White Egret (Lincolnshire). Seawatching highlights included a Sabine's Gull passing County Cork, a total of 12 Pomarine Skuas, and 10 Balearic Shearwaters between Ceredigion, Cornwall and Dorset. |

The highlight of the day was the discovery of new White-rumped Sandpipers
at both Snettisham, Norfolk, and Havergate Island, Suffolk, whilst at least one remained in
Lincolnshire; at Frampton Marsh. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper on the Orkney Isles, Long-billed Dowitcher in Gloucestershire, Ferruginous Duck in Somerset, and Glossy Ibises in both County Cork and County Wexford. Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (County Waterford), Red-backed Shrike (London), Pectoral Sandpiper (Essex and Northumberland) and Surf Scoter (two together in Aberdeenshire). Seawatching from County Cork produced a Wilson's Petrel off Galley Head, and both Cory's Shearwater and Great Shearwater passing Mizen Head, whilst in Ayrshire a Cory's Shearwater was reported from the Isle of Arran. |

An adult Sharp-tailed Sandpiper was found at Swartmill on Westray
today, which represents the first record for the Orkney Islands. In north west
Ireland, a male Snowy Owl was on Arranmore Island, County Donegal. The
bird was first seen on Wednesday, but was still present today. The female Snowy
Owl also remains on The Mullet in County Mayo.
A new Glossy Ibis was in County Kerry, at Tralee, with other singles lingering in County Wexford and Sussex. The Ferruginous Duck was still to be found at Blagdon Lake in Somerset. A moulting adult Grey Phalarope in near winter plumage spent the day at Old Moor in Yorkshire and in County Waterford the Rose-coloured Starling still entertained visitors at Dungarvan. A Temminck's Stint was found on the Ythan Estuary in Aberdeenshire, and there was a scattering of seabirds along the east coast including one or two Pomarine Skuas and a few Sooty Shearwaters. |
