Apart from a brief Bee-eater at Dale, Pembrokeshire and a
White-billed Diver from a boat off Melvaig, Highland, Red-rumped Swallow
was the bird of the day. New individuals were found in Cambridgeshire, Cornwall
and Norfolk, with two together at Blakeney and another single bird at Waxham.
Lingering rarity highlights included the Squacco Heron at Blagdon Lake, Somerset, Blue-winged Teal at Kirkintilloch in Clyde, Ortolan Bunting on Fair Isle, Shetland and Long-billed Dowitcher at Hodbarrow RSPB, Cumbria. Other rarities included a possible Azorean Yellow-legged Gull in Cornwall, a possible Baltic Gull in London, Glossy Ibises in Lancashire, Essex and Pembrokeshire (3), two Black-winged Stilts in Kent and two Red-rumped Swallows in the Isles of Scilly. |

The highlight of the day was the discovery of at least one Pallid Harrier on the Lincolnshire coast; with birds noted at both
Gibraltar Point and Theddlethorpe St Helen. Elsewhere, a Red-throated Pipit was new in Cornwall on The Lizard, a
Red-rumped Swallow moved through Staunton Harold Reservoir and Swarkestone Lake (both Derbyshire), and Black Kites
were noted overflying both Kent and Hampshire (2). Lingering rarities confirmed as still present comprised the Squacco Heron in Somerset, Blue-winged Teal in Clyde, King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Savi's Warbler in Leicestershire, single Red-rumped Swallows in both Cambridgeshire and Kent, White-billed Diver in Moray, and Glossy Ibises in County Cork (3), Pembrokeshire (2), County Wexford and West Sussex (2). Scarcities included Red-spotted Bluethroat (Shetland Isles), Woodchat Shrike (Isle of Scilly), Yellow-browed Warbler (Norfolk), Golden Oriole (Pembrokeshire and Isles of Scilly (3)), Temminck's Stint (Nottinghamshire), White Stork (two together in Hampshire) and Wryneck (two each in both East Yorkshire and the Shetland Isles). |

A Pallid Harrier which flew over Spurn, Yorkshire was presumably the
bird seen yesterday at Easington. Today it flew south into Lincolnshire, and
wasn't reported again. Single Tawny Pipits were at Landguard, Suffolk and
on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly, with other new discoveries including a
Blue-winged Teal in Clyde, a Black Kite in Somerset, an American
Golden Plover and four Glossy Ibises in County Wexford (the latter
presumably relocating from Marloes Mere, Pembrokeshire) and a Red-rumped Swallow
in Yorkshire. Other Glossy Ibises were found in County Cork and Sussex.
Lingering rarities seen today included the Savi's Warbler in Leicestershire, Long-billed Dowitcher in Suffolk, White-billed Diver in Moray, King Eider in Aberdeenshire, Red-rumped Swallows in the Isles of Scilly (2), County Cork, Oxfordshire and Gwent, Black-winged Stilts in Cambridgeshire and Kent (4) and Glossy Ibis in Anglesey. The possible Atlas Flycatcher remained in Yorkshire. |

The highlight of the day was Britain's 16th Calandra Lark, which
paused briefly at Sandwich Bay, Kent, before flying north. Other rarity
highlights today included a Pallid Harrier on the north Norfolk coast, a
Citrine Wagtail at Ballynamona, County Cork and a Black Kite over
Ibsley, Hampshire.
Other new discoveries included single Red-rumped Swallows in Kent, Oxfordshire, Devon and County Cork, Black-winged Stilts in Kent (4), Lincolnshire (2) and Devon and Glossy Ibises in Shropshire, Sussex, Essex and Ayrshire. Lingering rarity highlights were the Savi's Warbler in Leicestershire, Long-billed Dowitcher in Suffolk, Greater Yellowlegs in Aberdeenshire, Squacco Heron in Somerset, Red-rumped Swallow in Gwent, Little Bunting in Kent and the possible Atlas Flycatcher in Yorkshire. |

In East Anglia, a Long-billed Dowitcher was found this evening at
Livermere Lake in west Suffolk and a Citrine Wagtail was seen briefly at
Holme in Norfolk. A Savi's Warbler, found at Rutland Water in
Leicestershire this morning, performed fairly well at times but remained elusive
at others. A Glossy Ibis was at Christchurch in Dorset and later at
Pennington in Hampshire, whilst in Pembrokeshire the three Glossy Ibises were
joined by a fourth today. Red-rumped Swallows also featured significantly
with new birds at Goldcliff in Gwent and Hornsea Mere in East Yorkshire, whilst
two remained on the Scillies, today being found on Tresco. Two Bee-eaters
flew over Great Ormes Head in Conwy.
The Squacco Heron was seen twice briefly again at Chew Valley Lake in Somerset. In Flintshire the Black-winged Pratincole was at Burton Wetlands in the morning only and in Yorkshire the possible Atlas Flycatcher was still at Flamborough Head. Black-winged Stilts remained in Cambridgeshire and on the Isle of May in Fife and the long staying Greater Yellowlegs was still to be found in Aberdeenshire. In Kent the Little Bunting was trapped again at Sandwich Bay. Popular scarcities included a trip of 15 Dotterels in Surrey/London and a Kentish Plover in East Sussex. White Storks included five in Hampshire and two in Kent and then Sussex. |

New discoveries today included a brief Black-winged Pratincole on the
Cheshire / Flintshire border at Burton Mere Wetlands RSPB this evening, before
it flew south, a Long-billed Dowitcher on Lough Beg, County Derry, a
Black-winged Stilt at Paxton Pits NR, Cambridgeshire and at least two
Red-rumped Swallows on the Isles of Scilly (two on St Martin's early morning
and a single bird on Bryher later).
The possible Atlas Flycatcher remained in Yorkshire, whilst lingering rarities included single Black-winged Stilts in Fife and Cornwall, Glossy Ibis in Dorset and White-billed Divers in Moray (2) and Orkney. A small influx of Golden Orioles into the south-west produced up to eleven on the Isles of Scilly (including five together on St Martin's, five on St Mary's and one on Bryher), one in Cornwall and one in Devon. Other scarcity highlights included a Woodchat Shrike, a Red-necked Phalarope, a Montagu's Harrier, a Spotted Crake, a Yellow-browed Warbler, two Kentish Plovers, two Hoopoes, two Short-toed Larks, three Wrynecks, five Temminck's Stints and five White Storks. |
