The highlight of the day was a Caspian Tern seen briefly at Loch Lomond, Clyde. Other rarities noted today comprised the
Blue-winged Teal still in Cambridgeshire, Great Reed Warbler in Derbyshire and the
Iberian Chiffchaff in South Yorkshire. Scarcities included a Purple Heron still in Kent, a Serin on the Isles of Scilly, Common Rosefinch in Perth and Kinross, Marsh Warbler on the Isle of Wight and single Surf Scoters in both Aberdeenshire and the Shetland Isles. |

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present today comprised the ringed Blue-winged Teal
in Cambridgeshire, Great Reed Warbler in Derbyshire, King Eider in Aberdeenshire and the
Iberian Chiffchaff in Gwent. An Alpine Swift showed briefly in Northumberland at Whittle Dene. Scarcities included the territorial White-spotted Bluethroat still in Norfolk, a Purple Heron in Kent, a Great White Egret briefly in West Sussex, single Common Rosefinches in both Dorset and Perth and Kinross and Marsh Warblers in Norfolk, Northumberland, South Yorkshire and the Isle of Wight. |

The quietest day of the year so far, with no new rarities found. The
headline bird was the male Little Shearwater, which was heard again
overnight in the Manx Shearwater colony on Lundy, Devon. Other summering
rarities consisted of Great Reed Warbler in Derbyshire, single Iberian
Chiffchaffs in Gwent and Yorkshire, King Eider in Aberdeenshire and
Glossy Ibis in County Wexford. The wandering drake Blue-winged Teal
in Cambridgeshire relocated to Berry Fen, Bluntisham.
A male Serin sang on St Agnes, Scilly mid morning. Males on territory included Marsh Warbler at Edderthorpe, Yorkshire, White-spotted Bluethroat at Welney, Norfolk and Common Rosefinch at Glendeven, Perth and Kinross. The Red-necked Phalarope was seen early morning only at Frampton Marsh RSPB, Lincolnshire, with other scarcities consisting of a Dotterel on Unst, Shetland, Rose-coloured Starling on Barra, Western Isles, Temminck's Stint at Loch of Strathbeg RSPB, Aberdeenshire, Purple Heron at Dungeness, Kent and several Honey Buzzards and Spoonbills. |

The first Iberian Chiffchaff for Ireland was discovered at Brownstown
Head, County Waterford today, continuing this record breaking year for the
species. Also in Ireland, a Black-winged Stilt was seen in County Armagh
yesterday evening, as it flew over Portadown. The Forster's Tern
reappeared at Tacumshin, County Wexford, with the Glossy Ibis also
confirmed as still present.
Back in Britain, the Great Reed Warbler was still singing and showing well at Straws Bridge, Derbyshire, and the drake Blue-winged Teal showed all day at Fen Drayton Lakes RSPB, Cambridgeshire (it was seen to be bearing a metal ring upon closer views this evening). A Bee-eater was seen again at Cemlyn, Anglesey, single Iberian Chiffchaffs were heard in Yorkshire and Gwent but there was no sign of the male Marmora's Warbler at Blorenge. Scarcity highlights included a Red-necked Phalarope in Lincolnshire, Hoopoe in London, single Common Rosefinches in Kent and Perth and Kinross, Marsh Warbler and White Stork in Yorkshire, White-spotted Bluethroat and Roseate Tern in Norfolk, Ring-necked Duck in Fife, two Purple Herons in Kent and several Honey Buzzards and Spoonbills. |

A male Rustic Bunting was new in on Fair Isle, Shetland today, as was
a Bluethroat. A Great Reed Warbler was trapped and ringed at
Malltraeth RSPB, Anglesey, but unfortunately was not seen after release. A drake
Blue-winged Teal in Cambridgeshire, the second in just under three weeks
and just the eighth for the county, was found at Fen Drayton Lakes RSPB mid
morning, where it remained until dusk.
Long staying rarities logged today included the Marmora's Warbler and Iberian Chiffchaff in Gwent (with another of the latter still in Yorkshire), Broad-billed Sandpiper in Cleveland and Great Reed Warbler in Derbyshire. Classic mid summer scarcities were represented by two Common Rosefinches, a Red-backed Shrike in Northumberland, a Marsh Warbler in South Yorkshire and a Golden Oriole in Cornwall, whilst the White-spotted Bluethroat remained in Norfolk. |

The only new rarity reported today was a belated record of a Black Stork
flying over Jurston on Dartmoor in Devon. Long staying rarities that were still
attracting admirers included the Marmora's Warbler and Iberian
Chiffchaff in Gwent, the Great Reed Warbler in Derbyshire and the
Broad-billed Sandpiper in Cleveland.
In London the Common Rosefinch was seen again at Tottenham Marsh, but proved somewhat elusive. A new Red-backed Shrike was found near Alnmouth in Northumberland and 21 Spoonbills were reported, including 8 together at Gibraltar Point in Lincolnshire. Elsewhere, a Pomarine Skua was off Flamborough Head in Yorkshire and the White-spotted Bluethroat continued to hold territory at Welney in Norfolk. |

A Bee-eater at Cemlyn, Anglesey was the only new rarity discovered
today, remaining in the area all day.
There were still plenty of long staying rarities, however, headlined by the territorial male Marmora's Warbler at Blorenge, Gwent, with the Iberian Chiffchaff likewise in Wentwood Forest. The singing male Great Reed Warbler was present for its 32nd day at Straws Bridge, Derbyshire. Other long staying rarities included Iberian Chiffchaff at Potteric Carr, Yorkshire and Broad-billed Sandpiper at Saltholme, Cleveland. The Red-footed Falcon spent its third day at Exminster Marshes, Devon. Scarcity highlight was a Common Rosefinch in London, with runner-ups including Red-backed Shrike and White-spotted Bluethroat in Norfolk, Golden Oriole in Cornwall, singing Marsh Warblers in Suffolk, Isle of Wight and Highland and a Great White Egret in County Wexford. |

The highlight of the day was the discovery of an adult male Red-footed Falcon in Kent at Whetsted. Lingering rarities comprised the Marmora's Warbler and Iberian Chiffchaff both still on territory in Gwent, Broad-billed Sandpiper in Cleveland, Great Reed Warbler in Derbyshire and single Red-footed Falcons in both Cambridgeshire and Devon whilst elsewhere in Devon the singing Barolo Little Shearwater remains unseen on Lundy. Scarcities included three Red-backed Shrikes (two together in East Yorkshire), territorial White-spotted Bluethroat in Norfolk, Marsh Warbler on the Isle of Wight, Surf Scoter in Aberdeenshire and Ring-necked Duck in Fife. |

Today's highlights came from Gwynedd where both a White-throated Sparrow (the sixth British record so far this spring) and a
Greenish Warbler were discovered on Bardsey Island, whilst a Bee-eater
was located at Llandegwning on the adjacent Lleyn Peninsula. Elsewhere, a Red-footed Falcon showed at Exminster Marshes, Devon and two
more Bee-eaters flew over Tow Law, County Durham. Lingering rarities comprised the Marmora's Warbler still in Gwent, Broad-billed Sandpiper in Cleveland, Great Reed Warbler in Derbyshire and the Barolo Little Shearwater still singing unseen on Lundy Island, Devon. Scarcities included two each of Marsh Warbler and Great White Egret, a territorial White-spotted Bluethroat in Norfolk, Purple Heron in Suffolk, Ring-necked Duck in Fife, Cory's Shearwater in West Sussex and a migrant Golden Oriole in Cleveland. |
