In Cornwall, the adult Whiskered Tern remained on the Camel Estuary at
Tregunna all day. In Sussex, the adult Bonaparte's Gull was again on
Arlington Reservoir, often showing well. Further north, the Long-billed
Dowitcher reappeared at Banks Marsh NNR, Lancashire, whilst the male
Black-headed Wagtail or hybrid was again on Cresswell Pond NWT,
Northumberland. A Glossy Ibis was still at Tacumshin, County Wexford.
Spring scarcities logged today included three Serins, four Hoopoes, a Woodchat Shrike, four White Storks and a Montagu's Harrier, whilst winter leftovers included an American Wigeon, four Green-winged Teals, a Ring-necked Duck, three Lesser Snow Geese, two Shorelarks and a Great Grey Shrike. |

The highlight of the day was a Whiskered Tern in Cornwall on the Camel Estuary, whilst elsewhere in that county the
Savi's Warbler remained at Marazion and at Polgigga both Tawny Pipit
and Bee-eater showed briefly. Otherwise, rarities included a brief Red-rumped Swallow in Greater Manchester, the Bonaparte's Gull still in East Sussex, the Black-headed Wagtail or hybrid still in Northumberland and what was probably a Spanish Wagtail was at King George V Reservoir, London Scarcities included three each of both Hoopoe and Green-winged Teal, two each of Surf Scoter, Great White Egret, Glaucous Gull and Serin (together in Dorset) and single Night Heron (East Sussex), American Wigeon (Cleveland), Great Grey Shrike (Lincolnshire), Tundra Bean Goose (Lothian) and, in Cornwall, Wryneck, Ring-billed Gull and Iceland Gull. |

Saturday 17th April 2010 | ||

A male Savi's Warbler was both seen and heard at Marazion Marsh RSPB,
Cornwall today, whilst a White-billed Diver was found off Finavarra
Point, County Clare. The Ferruginous Duck in Somerset and Hooded
Merganser in Cleveland were the only lingering rarities seen.
Scarcities included a Serin, a Wryneck, two Pomarine Skuas, two Ring-billed Gulls, three Glaucous Gulls, an Iceland Gull, a Black Brant, two Surf Scoters, two Green-winged Teals, a White Stork, three Great White Egrets, three Hoopoes, a Lapland Bunting and four Shorelarks. |

The highlight of the day were a Ring-necked Duck in Oxfordshire, a Hoopoe in Kent, four Shorelarks in Lincolnshire, five Waxwings in West Yorkshire, two Pomarine Skuas passing Cumbria and three Iceland Gulls (in County Cork, Norfolk and the Shetland Isles). A total of 21 Garganey were located across twelve counties. | ||

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present today comprised the White-billed Diver in Highland, Ferruginous Duck in Somerset and
Glossy Ibis in County Wexford. Scarcities included seven Shorelarks (together in Lincolnshire), three Green-winged Teals, two each of Surf Scoter (together in Fife), White Stork (together in Glamorgan) and Great White Egret and single Ring-necked Duck (Oxfordshire) and Ring-billed Gull (Shetland Isles). |

Two White-billed Divers were seen off Burghead, Moray this afternoon,
with one lingering into the evening. On the Western Isles, a male Snowy Owl
was found on North Uist, whilst further south, a Lesser Scaup was at
Shapwick Heath NNR, Somerset. A Ferruginous Duck also remained in the
latter county.
Scarcities seen today included a White Stork in Dorset, Hoopoe in Argyll, Great White Egret in Somerset, two Surf Scoters, two Glaucous Gulls, Iceland Gull in Devon, Caspian Gull in Yorkshire, five Spoonbills, nine Waxwings and seven Shorelarks in Lincolnshire. |
