Showed occasionally quite well, mainly staying near the edge of the reed beds but often disappearing into the reeds at the East end of Gosforth Park Nature Reserve between mid morning and mid afternoon (photo from about 100 metres range).

At the Fish Quay harbour in late afternoon winter sunshine. This individual was noticed to have pinkish/red colouration to the left side of the mandibles but showed an amber (as shown here) right side to both mandibles.
