Account has expired, what do I do? Where do I find all the details of a report in NewsMap? When you click on a site name in NewsMap you get a summary of the full message we send to our pagers, mobiles phones and our website. To see the full details of any entry in NewsMap return to the RBA website and look at the news reports where you will find additional information such as site directions, grid references etc. Why do I have to wait 10 minutes to load a new report each time? RBA NewsMap is a unique online service which automatically refreshes for you every 10 minutes meaning you are up-to-date like never before. If you receive an error messages on screen telling you to wait 10 minutes this is very often caused by trying to run a new report within 10 minutes of the last one. These type of error messages will disappear after 10 minutes when NewsMap refreshes. Why does it sometimes take a long time to see the news when opening Google Earth? Every time you open the Google Earth program it has to do a number of things such as check internet connections, load various layers and other data which can take a few seconds even on broadband. Should I save NewsFeeds in My Places when closing Google Earth? We do not recommend saving NewsFeeds when closing Google Earth as it can lead to problems if more than one have been saved, therefore it is always best to open and run NewsFeeds direct from the RBA website. To delete NewsFeeds from the Places toolbar right click on them and choose delete. How do I get driving directions to a site? You can get detailed driving directions using NewsMap. Click on the 'Directions' tab in the 'Search' toolbar and enter in your start and end points. A route should be displayed on the map with the text directions down the left-hand side where you also get an option to print. You can run 'fly-by' directions by clicking on the play button where you will be guided turn by turn on your route. TIP: To make sure your place names are always found put, county and UK after the place name you are searching for e.g. Cley, Norfolk UK I am entering in place names into the search facility and am not getting ay results? To make sure your place names are always found put, county and UK after the place name you are searching for e.g. Cley, Norfolk UK How do I delete saved NewsFeeds? To delete NewsFeeds from the Places toolbar right click on them and choose delete. Should I upgrade my version of Google Earth when new ones get released? Updates to the maps such as newly photographed areas and increased resolution will update automatically. However we recommend that you visit the Google Earth homepage regularly to check for new versions of the software. When I move around the map everything happens very slowly. This problem is usually caused by a slow graphics card and sometimes a very slow internet connection or processor. ERROR MESSAGES: Logged in on another computer, what do I do? Although it is possible to use your RBA login details on any computer anywhere it is not possible to be logged in on more than one machine at any one time. So if you use you computer at work and also at home it is important not to leave NewsMap running in one location if you want to use it at the other. If you are not logged in at another location and you are still getting this error message please contact us at support@rarebirdalert.co.uk. Trying to load multiple reports, what do I do? If you try to load and view more than one NewsFeed at a time you will get an error message when the oldest NewsFeed automatically refreshes. To avoid this problem delete the oldest NewsFeed and the most recently loaded one should work without displaying error messages. It is always best not to save NewsFeeds when closing NewsMap so make sure when you close the Google Earth program you don't save anything in your temporary places when prompted. If you have saved NewsFeeds delete them by right clicking then choosing delete, do this for all NewsFeeds. Account has expired., what do I do? To access NewsMap you will need to have an active website subscription. If your subscription has expired return to the RBA website, login and go to the shopping page to re-subscribe.
