On the 27th of August I was walking the dog around Midhurst polo fields and was in disbelief when this osprey appeard. It was flushed out of a patch of woodland by a mixture of corvids then landing in a nearby dead oak. As I approached to get a clearer shot, he seemed unphased by the dive-bomb efforts of three magpies. I was very grateful to get a few photos before he'd had enough pestering and moved on somewhere quiter.
I’d never expected to see an Osprey, especially in West Sussex. I believe it was likely passing through as part of its migration, with Ospreys moving south from their breeding grounds in late summer towards their wintering grounds in Africa. |
