My Grandson Frankie and I had a trip into the Guisborough forest last night hoping to see and hear Nightjars. About 0.5 mile up the Kildare track the woodland opens into a cleared area where the birds have been seen a number of times this year. Only one bird was heard from about 2220hr but it eventually flew around for a while giving us excellent views, the bird occasionally just over our heads. It settled in trees on the edge of the heather moor, continuing to churr when we left at about 1115hr. Frankie went to bed very chuffed, his first ever sighting! |
