| Highlights today consisted of a Green Warbler in Shetland at Valyie, Unst, Blyth's Reed Warbler in Shetland on Fair Isle, Black Kite in Western Isles on Barra, Citrine Wagtail in Highland at Balnakeil, Eastern Subalpine Warbler and Thrush Nightingale in Shetland at Hillwell, and recent news of Indigo Bunting in Pembrokeshire.
Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Savi's Warbler on territory in East Yorkshire, Black-winged Stilt in Lincolnshire, Red-footed Falcon in Cambridgeshire, Great Reed Warbler in Cambridgeshire, and a further Thrush Nightingale in Shetland. |

| Mind-boggling news today of an Indian Golden Oriole in Northumberland on Holy Island where it was present all morning and early afternoon but, unfortunately, was lost from view before it was identified. The breeding range of this migratory species includes Central Asia with all birds wintering in the Indian Subcontinent and so is similar to other extreme rarities on the British List (Long-tailed Shrike and Sulphur-bellied Warbler) and European List (Pied Bush Chat and Hume's Whitethroat).
Discoveries elsewhere included a Thrush Nightingale on the Shetland Isles at Moarfield, a Great Reed Warbler in Essex at The Naze, the first Blyth's Reed Warbler of the year in East Yorkshire at Kilnsea, and in County Dublin the Least Tern returned to Portrane for at least a fourth summer. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Pacific Diver in County Cork, American Black Tern in Northumberland, Savi's Warblers still on territory in Leicestershire and East Yorkshire, Great Reed Warbler and Red-footed Falcon in Cambridgeshire, Red-breasted Goose and Black-winged Stilt still together in Lincolnshire, and at least three Black Kites around west Cornwall. |

| Monday 20th May 2024 | ||

| Exceptional news today of a Booted Eagle photographed amidst a record breaking movement of immature Red Kites in Cornwall; a juvenile dark morph initially at St Just and then reported later over Morvah Quoit. This is the first Booted Eagle to be photographed here since the famous immature pale morph that was present in Ireland and then Britain between 7th February 1999 and 22nd June 2000 that is held in Category D of the British List. In the interim 24 years Booted Eagle has been suspected (but not accepted) in Britain on a further 31 occasions including confident claims in Devon (2001), Kent (2002, 2007, 2009, and 2014), Suffolk (2010 and 2021), Hampshire (2010), Lincolnshire (2013), West Sussex (2013), and Norfolk (2015).
Other rare raptors comprised a Pallid Harrier at Burton Fleming, Yorkshire, the lingering Red-footed Falcon at Fen Drayton, Cambridgeshire, and at least four Black Kites in Cornwall with birds recorded at Polgigga (four), St Buryan (two), Land's End (two), Penzance, Hayle and Porthgwarra. Other new discoveries included a Black-winged Stilt at Berry Fen, Cambridgeshire and a Red-rumped Swallow on St Mary's, Scilly, whilst a Little Bittern was recorded flying over Tacumshin, County Wexford overnight. Lingering rarities included the Indigo Bunting in County Durham, Great Reed Warbler in Cambridgeshire, Savi's Warblers in both Leicestershire and Yorkshire, Black-winged Stilt and Red-breasted Goose together in Lincolnshire, and American Black Tern in Northumberland. |

| New discoveries today included a Gull-billed Tern at Greylake RSPB, Somerset, a Black-winged Stilt and Red-footed Falcon at Fen Drayton Lakes RSPB, Cambridgeshire, a Black Kite at Praa Sands, Cornwall and four Wilson's Petrels at sea off Cape Clear, County Cork.
Lingering rarities still present included the Indigo Bunting in County Durham, Great Reed Warbler in Cambridgeshire, Savi's Warblers in Leicestershire and Yorkshire, Black-winged Stilt and Red-breasted Goose in Lincolnshire, Ferruginous Duck in Warwickshire, Red-footed Falcon in Kent and American Black Tern in Northumberland. |

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Savi's Warbler on territory in Leicestershire, Cleveland, and East Yorkshire, Red-breasted Goose and Black-winged Stilt in Lincolnshire, Red-footed Falcon in Kent, Double-crested Cormorant in County Sligo, Great Reed Warbler in Cambridgeshire, and American Black Tern in Northumberland. |

| Highlights today consisted of a Great Reed Warbler in Cambridgeshire at Ouse Fen, Citrine Wagtail in Sussex at Lancing, White-billed Diver on Shetland at Bluemull Sound, Blue-winged Teal in Berkshire at Crookham Common, Subalpine Warbler sp in Devon on Lundy, and Thrush Nightingales in Shetland at both Hillwell and Cunningsburgh, and in Orkney on North Ronaldsay. Another notable feature of the day was a mass arrival of Red-backed Shrikes, mostly on Shetland and Orkney.

| Highlights today consisted of an Red-rumped Swallow and Alpine Swift in Cornwall at Porthgwarra, two Great Reed Warblers, one in Nottinghamshire at Idle Valley NR, the other in North Yorkshire at Staveley YWT, another Red-rumped Swallow was found in Lothian at Aberlady Bay, and a Savi's Warbler in Cleveland at Saltholme RSPB.

| The highlight of day was the return of the American Black Tern to Long Nanny, Northumberland for at least its fifth summer. New rarities today were all brief encounters: a Black Kite in Nottinghamshire at Annesley, a White-billed Diver in Highland at Brora, and a Dusky Warbler reported at Maryculter, Aberdeenshire.
Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Black Duck in Forth, Elegant Tern in County Mayo, Savi's Warblers on territory in both Leicestershire and East Yorkshire, Bonaparte's Gull on the Shetland Isles, and in Lincolnshire Red-breasted Goose, Lesser Yellowlegs, and Black-winged Stilt all still together at Frampton Marsh. |

| New discoveries today included a Black Duck at Skinflats, Forth, a Great Reed Warbler at Abbotsbury, Dorset, an Alpine Swift on Bardsey, Gwynedd, a Pallid Harrier at Shoeburyness, Essex and a Bonaparte's Gull at Norwick, Shetland.
Lingering rarities included the Elegant Tern in County Mayo, Savi's Warbler in Leicestershire, Pallid Harrier in Shetland, Lesser Yellowlegs, Black-winged Stilt and Red-breasted Goose in Lincolnshire and Bonaparte's Gull in Dorset. |
