The highlight of the day was the discovery of a Squacco Heron in Lancashire at Leighton Moss whilst elsewhere new rarities comprised a Pallid Harrier on the Orkney Isles on Westray, a Black Kite briefly in Staffordshire near Boarsgrove, a Red-rumped Swallow in Kent at South Foreland, and Bee-eaters in Kent (3), Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk (5), and East Yorkshire.

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Forster's Tern in County Galway, Laughing Gull on the Isles of Scilly, Western Subalpine Warbler on the Shetland Isles, both Great Reed Warbler and Ferruginous Duck in Norfolk, Iberian Chiffchaff on territory in Gloucestershire, and Black-winged Stilts in Gloucestershire, Norfolk and Suffolk (2).

Scarcities included Common Rosefinch (Devon), Night Heron (Norfolk), Ring-necked Duck (Yorkshire), two each of Bluethroat, Montagu's Harrier, and migrant Dotterel, four of both Golden Oriole and Red-backed Shrike, 13 Temminck's Stints, and a total of 18 Glossy Ibises.

Rarities today comprised a Red-throated Pipit new on the Orkney Isles on Papa Westray, the Forster's Tern again in County Clare, both Caspian Tern and Great Reed Warbler still in Norfolk, Subalpine Warbler species on the Shetland Isles, Iberian Chiffchaff in song in Gloucestershire, King Eider in Aberdeenshire, and Black-winged Stilts in Gloucestershire, Norfolk (3), and County Wexford.

Scarcities included American Golden Plover (East Yorkshire), Montagu's Harrier (Essex), Purple Heron (Kent), American Wigeon (Dumfries and Galloway), Ring-necked Duck (West Yorkshire), Great Shearwater (Western Isles), two each of Bluethroat, Golden Oriole, and Long-tailed Skua, five Red-backed Shrikes, 10 Temminck's Stints, and a total of 15 Glossy Ibises.

Late news for yesterday concerned a Great Reed Warbler in Worcestershire at Grimley.

The highlights of the day were a Short-toed Eagle briefly in Cumbria at Ambleside, a Broad-billed Sandpiper in Northumberland at Budle Bay, a Savi's Warbler in East Yorkshire at Blacktoft Sands, and on the Shetland Isles a Snowy Owl and two Subalpine Warbler species on Fair Isle, with further Subalpine Warbler species on both Out Skerries and Unst.

Rarities elsewhere comprised Caspian Tern, Great Reed Warbler, and Ferruginous Duck in Norfolk, the territorial Iberian Chiffchaff still in Gloucestershire, Black Kite briefly in Cambridgeshire, Bee-eaters in Kent (4) and Suffolk, and Black-winged Stilts in Gloucestershire, Norfolk (3), North Yorkshire (2), and Suffolk (2).

Scarcities included Red-breasted Flycatcher, Icterine Warbler, and two Bluethroats all on the Isle of May, Fife, whilst elsewhere American Golden Plover (East Yorkshire), White-winged Black Tern (Kent), American Wigeon (Shetland), Spotted Crake (Oxfordshire), Glossy Ibis (Suffolk), two of both Golden Oriole and Night Heron, six Red-backed Shrikes, and a total of 17 Temminck's Stints.

Significant late news concerned the Elegant Tern yesterday back in County Galway at Inishroo, and on Saturday a male Black-eared Wheatear species at Hound Tor, Devon.

New discoveries today consisted of a Blyth's Reed Warbler at Kilnsea in East Yorkshire, Great Reed Warbler at Martin Mere in Lancashire, possible Subalpine Warbler sp at North Foreland in Kent, Broad-billed Sandpiper at Foula in Shetland, Black-winged Stilt at Slimbridge WWT in Gloucestershire, Black Kite at multiple locations in Cornwall, Pacific Diver at Toormore in County Cork, and 16 Bee Eaters in Lincolnshire, Suffolk and Derbyshire.

Lingering rarities today comprised the Caspian Tern in Norfolk, Eastern Subalpine Warbler in Shetland, Iberian Chiffchaff in Gloucestershire, Subalpine Warbler sp, and Semipalmated Sandpiper in Orkney, Black-winged Stilt in Gloucestershire, King Eider in Aberdeenshire, White-billed Diver in Western Isles, Ferruginous Duck, Great Reed Warbler, and Long-billed Dowitcher in Norfolk, Black Duck in County Mayo, White-winged Scoter in Fife, and Western Subalpine Warbler in Shetland.

Scarcities included three Night Herons, two Purple Herons, two Dotterel, eight Temminck's Stints, Honey Buzzard, Glaucous Gull, three Glossy Ibises, Grey-headed Wagtail, Long-tailed Skua, American Golden Plover, Great Grey Shrike, Green-winged Teal, Pomarine Skua, Bluethroat, Icterine Warbler, two Iceland Gulls, American Wigeon, and a Ring-necked Duck.

  New discoveries today included a Semipalmated Sandpiper and Broad-billed Sandpiper together on Papa Westray, Orkney, a Great Reed Warbler at Minsmere RSPB, Suffolk, a Western Subalpine Warbler on Portland, Dorset, a Subalpine Warbler species on North Ronaldsay, Orkney, 12 Bee-eaters at Hickling, Norfolk and single Black Kites at Esclusham Mountain, Wrexham, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire and Wilverley Inclosure, Hampshire.

Lingering rarities included the Caspian Tern in Norfolk, Black-winged Stilts in Kent (four) and Somerset, Pallid Harrier in Shropshire, Eastern Subalpine Warbler and Western Subalpine Warbler in Shetland, Great Reed Warbler in Norfolk, Iberian Chiffchaff in Gloucestershire, 13 Bee-eaters in Lincolnshire, King Eider in Aberdeenshire and Ferruginous Duck in Nottinghamshire.

Scarcity highlights included a Golden Oriole, two Hoopoe, a Spotted Crake, an American Golden Plover, a Dotterel, 23 Temminck's Stint, a Purple Heron, four Night Herons, four Glossy Ibises, a Montagu's Harrier, a White-winged Black Tern, a Green-winged Teal, an American Wigeon, a Ring-necked Duck, a Pomarine Skua, an Iceland Gull and four Glaucous Gulls.

New discoveries today consisted of a Semipalmated Plover at Tacumshin in County Wexford, Ferruginous Duck at Colwick in Nottinghamshire, Arctic Redpoll on Westray in Orkney, Caspian Tern at Pegwell Bay in Kent, Greater Yellowlegs at Ardarorch in Highland, Great Reed Warbler at Lound in Nottinghamshire, and 27 Bee Eaters in County Mayo, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Lingering rarities today comprised the Caspian Tern in Norfolk, Eastern Subalpine Warbler in Shetland, Iberian Chiffchaff in Gloucestershire, Pallid Harrier in Shropshire, Forster's Tern in Dorset, 4 Black-winged Stilts in Kent and two in Suffolk, Kentish Plover in Essex, Bonaparte's Gull in Cornwall, Black Duck in County Mayo, Great Reed Warbler in Norfolk, and Western Subalpine Warbler in Shetland.

Scarcities included a Night Heron, Hoopoe, Dotterel, 17 Temminck's Stints, Honey Buzzard, three Glaucous Gulls, five Glossy Ibises, two Balearic Shearwater, three Roseate Tern, American Golden Plover, two Montagu's Harriers, White-winged Black Tern, two Red-backed Shrikes, Pomarine Skua, Bluethroat, Tundra Bean Goose, American Wigeon, and a Ring-necked Duck.

New discoveries today consisted of a Kentish Plover at Landguard Nature Reserve in Suffolk, Broad-billed Sandpiper at Burnham Deepdale in Norfolk, Black Kite at Perranarworthal in Cornwall, Bee Eaters at Driffield in East Yorkshire, Pacific Diver at Fetlar in Shetland, Ferruginous Duck at Holme Pierrepont in Nottinghamshire, and four Black-winged Stilts at Worth in Kent and two at Welney in Norfolk.

Lingering rarities today comprised the Caspian Tern in Norfolk, Eastern Subalpine Warbler in Shetland, Iberian Chiffchaff in Gloucestershire, Pallid Harrier in Shropshire, Forster's Tern in Dorset, Black-winged Stilt in Nottinghamshire, Long-billed Dowitcher in Norfolk, Great Reed Warbler in Norfolk, and Western Subalpine Warbler in Shetland.

Scarcities included three Night Herons, two Hoopoe, eight Dotterel, 22 Temminck's Stints, Honey Buzzard, four Glaucous Gulls, seven Glossy Ibises, four Pom Skuas, Purple Heron, Serin, five Long-tailed Skuas, Shorelark, Iceland Gull, Green-winged Teal, two Red-backed Shrikes, Rosefinch, two Bluethroats, Pectoral Sandpiper, Tundra Bean Goose, American Wigeon, and a Ring-necked Duck.

Wednesday 17th May 2023  
 

Rarities today comprised the Forster's Tern still in Dorset, both Eastern Subalpine Warbler and Western Subalpine Warbler on the Shetland Isles, Squacco Heron in East Sussex, Pallid Harrier in Shropshire, Great Reed Warbler in Norfolk, Lesser Scaup in Lincolnshire, Iberian Chiffchaffs singing in Gloucestershire and East Sussex, and nine Black-winged Stilts: in Kent (6), London (2), and Oxfordshire. Brief encounters included a Caspian Tern in Norfolk, Kentish Plover in Lincolnshire, and a Black Kite in Dorset.

Scarcities included American Golden Plover (Lincolnshire), White-spotted Bluethroat (Gloucestershire), Serin (Cornwall), Red-backed Shrike (East Yorkshire), Hoopoe (Dorset), Pectoral Sandpiper (Cheshire), Ring-necked Duck (South Yorkshire), Black Brant (Norfolk), two each of Purple Heron, American Wigeon, Long-tailed Skua, and Grey-headed Wagtail, five of both Night Heron and Glossy Ibis, seven migrant Dotterel, and a total of 14 Temminck's Stints.

Discoveries today included a Black-browed Albatross in County Kerry at Skellig Michael, a Lesser Yellowlegs in County Donegal at Inch Island, a Lesser Scaup in Lincolnshire at Saltfleetby, and in Norfolk a Black-winged Stilt at Welney.

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Forster's Tern in Dorset, Squacco Heron in East Sussex, Eastern Subalpine Warbler on the Shetland Isles, Pallid Harrier in Shropshire, Great Reed Warblers in both Norfolk and Somerset, Iberian Chiffchaffs in Gloucestershire and East Sussex, Red-footed Falcon in Kent, and Black-winged Stilt in Oxfordshire.

Scarcities included Woodchat Shrike (Dorset), Golden Oriole (Surrey), American Wigeon (Argyll), Ring-necked Duck (South Yorkshire), Hoopoe and Shorelark (Shetland), two each of Night Heron, Montagu's Harrier, Pectoral Sandpiper and Grey-headed Wagtail, three of Red-backed Shrike and Purple Heron, seven migrant Dotterel, 16 Glossy Ibises, 18 Temminck's Stints, and a total of 33 Long-tailed Skuas.

The highlights of the day were the discoveries of a Citrine Wagtail in Highland at Balnakeil, and single Black-winged Stilts in Lancashire at Martin Mere and Oxfordshire at Otmoor.

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the Squacco Heron in East Sussex, both Eastern Subalpine Warbler and Western Subalpine Warbler on the Shetland Isles, Pallid Harrier in Shropshire, Great Reed Warblers singing in Norfolk and Somerset, Iberian Chiffchaffs in Gloucestershire and East Sussex, Bonaparte's Gull in Cornwall, Red-footed Falcon in Kent, Black-winged Stilt in Greater Manchester, Hooded Merganser in Cumbria, and two Ferruginous Ducks together in Norfolk.

Scarcities included White-spotted Bluethroat (Gloucestershire), American Wigeon (Argyll), Ring-necked Duck (South Yorkshire), two each of Montagu's Harrier, Purple Heron, Hoopoe, Glossy Ibis and Grey-headed Wagtail, three of Night Heron, Red-backed Shrike, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Long-tailed Skua, seven migrant Dotterel, and eight Temminck's Stints.
