A White-billed Diver in Shetland flew south past Boddam, as well as a King Eider seen yesterday from a ship north of Fetlar. The other notable species was a new American Herring Gull in Cornwall, on Lelant Saltings Rarities elsewhere comprised the Double-crested Cormorant in County Leitrim, White-rumped Sandpiper in Gloucestershire, White-winged Scoter in Lothian, Greater Yellowlegs in County Waterford, Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll in County Mayo, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Hume's Warbler in Kent, Red-breasted Goose in Cumbria, Long-billed Dowitcher, Pallid Harrier, and three Ferruginous Ducks in Norfolk, King Eiders in Cleveland and Shetland, and a Lesser Scaup in Somerset. Scarcities included a Pallas's Warbler, a Todd's Canada Goose, seven Glaucous Gulls, two Richard's Pipits, a Great Grey Shrike, an American Wigeon, 12 Taiga Bean Geese, 11 Ring-necked Ducks, nine Shorelarks, seven Tundra Bean Geese four Glossy Ibises, two Surf Scoters, two Little Buntings, five Green-winged Teal, 16 Waxwings, and a total of 7 Iceland Gulls. |

The highlight of the day was the discovery of a White-rumped Sandpiper in Gloucestershire at Slimbridge; the first early year record in Britain. Rarities elsewhere comprised the Double-crested Cormorant still in County Leitrim, Harlequin Duck on the Western Isles, White-winged Scoter in Lothian, Greater Yellowlegs in County Waterford, two Hume's Warblers in Kent, Long-billed Dowitcher and three Ferruginous Ducks in Norfolk, King Eiders in Cleveland and Lothian, and Lesser Scaups in Somerset and Surrey. Scarcities included Pallas's Warbler (County Durham), Rough-legged Buzzard (Orkney Isles), Richard's Pipit (Dorset), Great Grey Shrike (Hampshire), American Wigeon and Yellow-browed Warbler (Somerset), two each of both Green-winged Teal and Glossy Ibis, three Surf Scoters, four of Shorelark and Waxwing, and a total of 10 Ring-necked Ducks. Significant late news concerned a Black-faced Bunting trapped and ringed at an undisclosed site in Shropshire. |

| A Brunnich's Guillemot was in Yell Sound, Shetland today, where it showed very well from a boat. Further south, a first-winter Ross's Gull spent late afternoon on water meadows north of Dorchester, Dorset.
Lingering rarities included the Isabelline Wheatear in Cornwall, two Hume's Warblers in Kent, White-winged Scoters in Lothian and County Mayo, Hooded Merganser also in County Mayo, Baikal Teal in Gwynedd, King Eider in Cleveland, three Ferruginous Ducks, Long-billed Dowitcher and Pallid Harrier in Norfolk, Double-crested Cormorant in County Leitrim and Greater Yellowlegs in County Waterford. Scarcity highlights included a Pallas's Warbler, a Yellow-browed Warbler, a Great Grey Shrike, two Richard's Pipits, two Little Buntings, 11 Shorelarks, 21 Waxwings, four Glossy Ibises, two Green-winged Teal, six Surf Scoters, 13 Ring-necked Ducks, a Black Brant, four Tundra Bean Geese, 12 Taiga Bean Geese, two Ring-billed Gulls, four Glaucous Gulls and 19 Iceland Gulls. |

Rarities today comprised the Harlequin Duck still on the Western Isles, White-winged Scoters in both Lothian and County Mayo, Baikal Teal in Gwynedd, Hooded Merganser and Azorean Yellow-legged Gull in County Mayo, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Red-breasted Goose in Argyll, Hume's Warblers in Kent (2) and Somerset, Pallid Harrier, Long-billed Dowitcher, and three Ferruginous Ducks all in Norfolk, King Eider in Cleveland, two Penduline Tits together in East Sussex, Richardson's Cackling Geese in Argyll, County Mayo, and Norfolk, and Lesser Scaups in Somerset, Surrey, and the Western Isles. Scarcities included Pallas's Warbler (County Durham), Ring-billed Gull (County Louth), Yellow-browed Warbler (Lancashire), Lapland Bunting (Lincolnshire), two each of Richard's Pipit, Surf Scoter, Snow Goose, Great Grey Shrike, Green-winged Teal, and Glossy Ibis, three American Wigeons, 12 Shorelarks, 19 Ring-necked Ducks, and a total of 47 Waxwings. |

| A new Hume's Warbler was discovered in Kent today, at Enbrook Park, Folkestone.
Lingering rarities still present included the Isabelline Wheatear in Cornwall, Hume's Warbler in Somerset, Baikal Teal in Gwynedd, Hooded Merganser in County Mayo, Lesser Scaups in Surrey and Somerset, King Eider in Cleveland, three Ferruginous Ducks, Richardson's Cackling Goose, Long-billed Dowitcher and Pallid Harrier in Norfolk, Kentish Plover in Somerset and Greater Yellowlegs in County Waterford. Scarcity highlights included a Pallas's Warbler, a Richard's Pipit, a Great Grey Shrike, two Little Buntings, two Lapland Buntings, five Shorelarks, 25 Waxwings, a Rough-legged Buzzard, six Glossy Ibises, three American Wigeon, three Green-winged Teal, four Surf Scoters, 21 Ring-necked Ducks, a Todd's Canada Goose, eight Tundra Bean Geese, 12 Taiga Bean Geese, three Ring-billed Gulls, three Kumlien's Gulls, ten Glaucous Gulls and 26 Iceland Gulls. |

Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (Cornwall), two each of Pallas's Warbler, Yellow-browed Warbler, Green-winged Teal, and Glossy Ibis, three of Surf Scoter and American Wigeon, seven Ring-necked Ducks, 14 Shorelarks, and a total of 38 Waxwings. |
