On the Shetland Isles a Lanceolated Warbler was new at Wester Quarff whilst elsewhere on Mainland Pechora Pipit, Eastern Stonechat species, King Eider, Barred Warbler, the probable Homeyer's Great Grey Shrike, and three Hornemann's Actic Redpolls. On Out Skerries an Olive-backed Pipit, on Fair Isle American Golden Plover, Bluethroat, and Corncrake, and on Unst Ortolan Bunting, Bluethroat, and Barred Warbler.

On the Isles of Scilly a Greenish Warbler was new on St Agnes, Little Bunting on St Martin's, and two Common Rosefinches on St Mary's, whilst an incredible sea passage included an estimated 2,522 Great Shearwaters, 183 Cory's Shearwaters, 200 Balearic Shearwaters, and 400 Sooty Shearwaters.

Discoveries elsewhere included Semipalmated Sandpiper in County Mayo at Achill Island, Red-footed Falcon in Kent at Elmley, and on the Western Isles an American Buff-bellied Pipit joined the Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler on St Kilda.

Lingering rarities included Radde's Warbler and Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll on the Orkney Isles, Pallid Harrier in Dumfries and Galloway, Spotted Sandpiper in Hampshire, Forster's Tern in County Louth, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Blue-winged Teal in London, Lesser Yellowlegs in Cleveland, Kentish Plover in Somerset, and Ferruginous Duck in Warwickshire.

Monday 3rd October 2022  
  In Shetland, new discoveries included a Pechora Pipit at Hillswick, an Eastern Yellow Wagtail at Gott, a Coues's Arctic Redpoll at Boddam, all Mainland and a Blyth's Reed Warbler at Norwick, Unst, with lingering rarities in the archipalago including Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler, two Olive-backed Pipits, six Hornemann's Arctic Redpolls, Eastern Stonechat species, King Eider, and the probable Homeyer's Great Grey Shrike. Scarcities there included a Common Rosefinch, an Ortolan Bunting, two Lapland Buntings, three Bluethroats, five Barred Warblers, two American Golden Plovers and a Glaucous Gull.

Elsewhere, new rarities included a Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler on St Kilda, Western Isles, an Olive-backed Pipit at Nanjizal, Cornwall, a Blyth's Reed Warbler at Spurn, Yorkshire and a Spotted Sandpiper at Farlington, Hampshire (for its third day).

Other lingerers included two Red-eyed Vireos in County Clare, Long-billed Dowitcher in Cornwall, Lesser Yellowlegs in Cleveland, Kentish Plover in Somerset, Blue-winged Teal in London, Olive-backed Pipit in Orkney and Pallid Harrier in Dumfries and Galloway.

Away from Shetland scarcity totals were a Bluethroat, a Little Bunting, two Wrynecks, two Barred Warblers, two Common Rosefinches, thee Red-backed Shrikes, four Lapland Buntings, an American Golden Plover, three Buff-breasted Sandpipers, five Grey Phalaropes, eight Pectoral Sandpipers, a Purple Heron, nine Glossy Ibises, a Honey Buzzard, an American Wigeon, two Ring-necked Ducks, a Tundra Bean Goose, a Sabine's Gull, a Leach's Petrel, a Long-tailed Skua, 40 Balearic Shearwaters, at least 216 Great Shearwaters and at least 239 Cory's Shearwaters.

Sunday 2nd October 2022  
 

New rarities included Lesser Yellowlegs in Cleveland, Red-eyed Vireos in County Clare and County Galway, Blackpoll Warbler in Cornwall along with a Long-billed Dowitcher, on Orkney there were 2 Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls and a Lanceolated Warbler whilst on Shetland there was an Eastern Yellow Wagtail, 2 Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls and 4 Olive-backed Pipits.

Lingering rarities included Baltimore Oriole and Red-eyed Vireo in County Clare, Double-crested Cormorant in County Leitrim, Pallid Harrier in Dumfries and Galloway, Blue-winged Teal in London, King Eider in Lothian, Black Scoter in Northumberland, Dusky Warbler and Eastern Stonechat sp on Shetland and a couple Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls across Shetland also.

Saturday 1st October 2022  
 

The top spot must be shared by 3 species today, in County Clare a Baltimore Oriole was found at Kibaha, in County Cork a Bobolink was found at Garinish Point and in Shetland late news of a first-winter male Siberian Thrush at Mid Yell.

 New rarities included a Red-eyed Vireo in County Clare, Baird’s Sandpiper in County Kerry, Rustic Bunting in Norfolk, Lanceolated Warbler on Orkney, Dusky Warbler on Shetland, 4 Olive-backed Pipits (3 on Shetland and 1 in Dorset) and 3 Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls all on Shetland.

Lingering rarities included the Pallas’s Grasshopper Warbler and Red-flanked Bluetail on Fair Isle, Blue-winged Teal in London, Kentish Plover in Somerset, Swainson’s Thrush on Shetland, Pied-billed Grebe in Argyll, Forster’s Tern in County Louth, Eastern Stonechat sp on Shetland, Black Scoter off Northumberland and many Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls across Shetland and Orkney.

Friday 30th September 2022  
  New discoveries today included a Pallid Harrier at Point of Lag, Dumfries and Galloway, an Olive-backed Pipit on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly and a Radde's Warbler at Benacre, Suffolk. The Great Grey Shrike present at Hillswick, Shetland since Wednesday is now thought to be of the form homeyeri.

Lingering rarities included the Swainson's Thrush and two Hornemann's Arctic Redpolls in Shetland, Blue-winged Teal in London and Kentish Plover in Somerset.

Scarcity highlights included an Ortolan Bunting, a Bluethroat, an Icterine Warbler, a Red-breasted Flycatcher, a Common Rosefinch, a Rose-coloured Starling, two Wrynecks, two Red-backed Shrikes, three Richard's Pipits, three Barred Warblers, a Purple Heron, eight Glossy Ibises, a Ring-necked Duck, a Honey Buzzard, an American Golden Plover, six Pectoral Sandpipers, three Red-necked Phalaropes, eight Grey Phalaropes, a Leach's Petrel, three Sabine's Gulls, three Long-tailed Skuas and nine Pomarine Skuas.

Thursday 29th September 2022  
 

Again, the highlight of the day was the appearance of a Swainson’s Thrush on Shetland, Yell at West Yell in a garden near cemetery. New rarities elsewhere included Rustic Bunting in Northumberland, Black Scoter County Kerry, Bonaparte’s Gull in County Cork, Red-flanked Bluetail on Fair Isle, Red-throated Pipit in East Yorkshire, Olive-backed Pipits on Shetland and Orkney, Blyth’s Reed Warblers on Shetland and the Western Isles, Eastern Stonechat sp on Shetland and 9 Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls with 6 on Shetland, 2 on Orkney and 1 in Aberdeenshire also 5 Radde’s Warblers.

 

Lingering rarities included White-billed Diver in Shetland, Kentish Plover in Somerset, Pallas’s Grasshopper Warbler on Fair Isle, Baird’s Sandpiper in Aberdeenshire, King Eider in Lothian and Long-billed Dowitcher on Orkney.

Wednesday 28th September 2022  
 

Main news of the day came from the Western Isles where a Swainson’s Thrush was trapped and ringed on Barra. New rarities elsewhere included 6 Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls with 5 of the them being on Shetland also a Blyth’s Reed Warbler on Shetland.

Lingering rarities included Kentish Plover in Somerset, Pallas’s Grasshopper Warbler on Fair Isle, King Eider in Shetland, Baird’s Sandpiper in Aberdeenshire, Red-footed Falcon in Norfolk, Long-billed Dowitcher on Orkney, Pied-billed Grebe in Argyll plus 4 Hornemann’s Arctic Redpolls across Shetland and Orkney.

Tuesday 27th September 2022  
  The highlight of the day was the discovery of both a White's Thrush and a Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll on the Orkney Isles on North Ronaldsay, whilst a Siberian Thrush was found dead nearby on Papa Westray. On the Western Isles a Gyr was now on Lewis at Loch Ordais whilst a Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll arrived on St Kilda. 

On the Shetland Isles a Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler was new on Fair Isle, Eastern Yellow Wagtail, Olive-backed Pipit, King Eider, Surf Scoter, and Pectoral Sandpiper were all on Mainland, a Red-backed Shrike on Unst, and around the islands three Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll, three Barred Warblers, and a total of 10 Common Rosefinches. On the Isles of Scilly a Common Rosefinch was on Bryher and two Wrynecks were on St Mary's.

Other rarities comprised Baird's Sandpiper still in Aberdeenshire, Long-billed Dowitcher still on the Orkney, Red-footed Falcon still in Norfolk, and Pallid Harriers identified in Dorset at Hengistbury Head and Kent at Worth.

Monday 26th September 2022  
 

The main and obvious highlight of the day was the discovery of a juvenile Common Nighthawk found sat on a fence line in suburban Wantage, Oxfordshire. The bird showed very well to all visiting birders before flying high south at 6.55pm.

 

Other new rarities were both on Shetland with an Eastern Yellow Wagtail and a Hornemann’s Arctic Redpoll. Elsewhere lingering rarities included Red-footed Falcon in Norfolk and Baird’s Sandpiper in Aberdeenshire

Sunday 25th September 2022  
  Discoveries today included a Semipalmated Sandpiper on the Western Isles on South Uist, Pacific Golden Plover in Lincolnshire at Donna Nook, Lesser Yellowlegs in North Yorkshire at Scorton, and in Norfolk two Red-footed Falcons together at Hickling Broad.

Lingering rarities confirmed as still present included Baird's Sandpiper in Aberdeenshire, Pallid Harrier in Cornwall, Pied-billed Grebe in Argyll, and Kentish Plover in Somerset.

On the Shetland Isles a King Eider was on Yell, Woodchat Shrike, Red-backed Shrike, and Barred Warbler on Unst, Surf Scoter and two Pectoral Sandpipers on Mainland, and a total of five Common Roesfinches. On the Isles of Scilly a Barred Warbler was on Tresco, Common Rosefinch on Gugh, and both Red-backed Shrike and Wryneck on St Mary's.

Elsewhere notable scarcities comprised Icterine Warbler (Norfolk), Red-breasted Flycatcher (Kent), Purple Heron (Lancashire), American Golden Plover (Anglesey), Ring-billed Gull (County Louth), Rose-coloured Starling (County Cork), and two Buff-breasted Sandpipers (Gwynedd and Western Isles).
