Rarities today comprised a Greenish Warbler still in East Yorkshire, Blyth's Reed Warblers in Lincolnshire, the Shetland Isles and Western Isles,
Red-footed Falcons in Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Kent and West Sussex, both
Savi's Warbler and White-billed Diver still on Shetland, a brief
Kentish Plover in Hampshire at Weston Shore, the territorial Iberian Chiffchaff
still in Suffolk, Lesser Yellowlegs in North Yorkshire, Black-winged Stilt in East Sussex, and
Lesser Scaup on the Western Isles. Scarcities included Red-breasted Flycatcher (Shetland Isles), American Wigeon (Northumberland), Glossy Ibis (Worcestershire), two migrant Red-necked Phalaropes, three Red-backed Shrikes, four Marsh Warblers, and 10 Rose-coloured Starlings bringing the total of this species in summer 2020 to 107 birds. |

The Shetland Isles enjoyed an excellent day for rarities with River
Warbler, Savi's Warbler, Blyth's Reed Warbler, Greenish
Warbler, Citrine Wagtail and White-billed Diver all logged on the archipelago. Rarities elsewhere comprised Blyth's Reed Warblers singing in both Lincolnshire and Norfolk, a Greenish Warbler new in East Yorkshire at Spurn, Citrine Wagtail still on the Orkney Isles, both Savi's Warbler and Iberian Chiffchaff singing in Suffolk, Bonaparte's Gull still in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs in North Yorkshire, Black-winged Stilt in East Sussex, and Red-footed Falcons in Cambridgeshire, East Sussex and West Sussex. Scarcities included Ortolan Bunting (County Donegal), Golden Oriole (Cambridgeshire), Common Rosefinch (Orkney Isles), Purple Heron (Lancashire), a migrant Red-necked Phalarope (Leicestershire), two Glossy Ibises, five each of both Marsh Warbler and Red-backed Shrike, and 13 Rose-coloured Starlings bringing the total of this species in summer 2020 to 103 birds. |

The highlight of the day was the discovery of a River Warbler on the Shetland Isles on Fair Isle, with a pair of
Black-winged Stilts new in Surrey at Badshot Lea, and Red-footed Falcons found in Cambridgeshire at Fen Drayton, Kent at Dungeness, and in East Sussex at both Mile Oak and Shoreham. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were singing Blyth's Reed Warblers in each of Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, Caspian Tern in Norfolk, Citrine Wagtail on the Shetland Isles, both Savi's Warbler and Iberian Chiffchaff in Suffolk, Black-winged Stilt in East Sussex, Lesser Yellowlegs in North Yorkshire, and Red-rumped Swallow on the Isles of Scilly. Scarcities included Woodchat Shrike (Orkney Isles), Icterine Warbler and Common Rosefinch (Shetland Isles), Red-necked Phalarope (Northumberland), Green-winged Teal (Leicestershire), Glossy Ibis (Worcestershire), three Golden Orioles, five each of both Marsh Warbler and Red-backed Shrike, whilst 13 Rose-coloured Starlings brought the total so far this summer to 93. |

New discoveries today included a Gull-billed Tern at Muckrush, County Galway, a Caspian Tern at Potter Heigham, Norfolk, Black-winged Stilt at Dunwich and Savi's Warbler at North Warren RSPB, both Suffolk, single Blyth's Reed Warblers at Southwold, Suffolk, Beeston, Norfolk and Far Ings NR, Lincolnshire, 12 Bee-eaters at Halvosso, Cornwall, White-billed Diver at Dunbar, Lothian and a Black Kite over Rockland St Mary, Norfolk.
Lingering rarities included the Green Warbler in Orkney, Iberian Chiffchaff in Suffolk, Great Reed Warbler in Northumberland, Citrine Wagtail in Shetland, Red-rumped Swallow in Scilly, Red-footed Falcon in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs in Yorkshire and Black-winged Stilt in Sussex. Scarcity highlights included a Golden Oriole, an Icterine Warbler, a Hoopoe, a Grey-headed Wagtail, two Marsh Warblers, two Common Rosefinches, two Woodchat Shrikes, two Red-backed Shrikes, 16 Rose-coloured Starlings, a Pectoral Sandpiper, four Red-necked Phalaropes, three Roseate Terns, a Purple Heron, a Glossy Ibis, a Long-tailed Skua, four Balearic Shearwaters, a Green-winged Teal and a Glaucous Gull. |

New discoveries today included a Broad-billed Sandpiper at Potter Heigham, Norfolk, a Lesser Grey Shrike at Vidlin, Shetland, a Great Reed Warbler at Druridge Pools, Northumberland, single Blyth's Reed Warblers at The Naze, Essex, Portland, Dorset, Bornish, Western Isles and Scatness, Shetland and single Red-footed Falcons at Dungeness, Kent and Lodmoor RSPB, Dorset. The Bonaparte's Gull at Oare Marshes, Kent returned for its 8th summer.
Lingering rarities included the Little Bittern in County Dublin, Lesser Yellowlegs in Yorkshire, Citrine Wagtail in Shetland, Iberian Chiffchaff in Suffolk and Red-rumped Swallow in Scilly. Scarcity highlights included a Short-toed Lark, a Serin, a Common Rosefinch, an Icterine Warbler, two Marsh Warblers, three Golden Orioles, four Red-backed Shrikes, 11 Rose-coloured Starlings, a Montagu's Harrier, four Honey Buzzards, a Purple Heron, a Glossy Ibis, a Balearic Shearwater, a Green-winged Teal and a Glaucous Gull. |

Rarities today comprised both Citrine Wagtail and Blyth's Reed Warbler
new on the Shetland Isles, on Fair Isle and at Durigarth respectively, a Red-footed Falcon in Dorset at Ferrybridge, Black Kite in Norfolk,
Red-rumped Swallow on the Isles of Scilly, and in North Yorkshire the Lesser Yellowlegs
remained. Scarcities included Common Rosefinch (Gwynedd), Glossy Ibis (Worcestershire), Green-winged Teal (Leicestershire), two each of both Night Heron and migrant Red-necked Phalarope, three of Purple Heron and Golden Oriole, four Marsh Warblers, five Red-backed Shrikes, and a total of 14 Rose-coloured Starlings. |

The highlight of the day was confirmation that the Green Warbler remaims on North Ronaldsay, Orkney Isles. Elsewhere, a Caspian Tern was new in Cleveland at Saltholme, a Red-rumped Swallow was on the Isles of Scilly on St Mary's, Black Kite on the Isle of Wight, Lesser Yellowlegs in North Yorkshire, Lesser Scaup on the Western Isles, two Red-footed Falcons in Kent, and two Bee-eaters still on Orkney. Scarcities included Red-breasted Flycatcher (Essex), Icterine Warbler (Shetland Isles), Night Heron (Kent), Purple Heron (Somerset), Serin (Cornwall), Red-necked Phalarope (East Yorkshire), Glossy Ibis (Worcestershire), Green-winged Teal (Leicestershire), Grey-headed Wagtail (Suffolk), two each of both Golden Oriole and Marsh Warbler, three Red-backed Shrikes, and a total of nine Rose-coloured Starlings. |

Rarities today comprised a Great Reed Warbler new in Suffolk at Carlton Marshes, a
Savi's Warbler in Somerset, Citrine Wagtail still on the Shetland Isles, Lesser Yellowlegs in North Yorkshire,
Blyth's Reed Warblers on both the Shetland and the Western Isles, Red-footed Falcons in Cornwall and Kent (2), and
Bee-eaters in East Yorkshire, Kent, Norfolk (2) and the Orkney Isles (2). The reported Blue-winged Teal remained in Northumberland but proved to be a hybrid Shoveler. Scarcities included Red-breasted Flycatcher (Western Isles), Bluethroat (Shetland Isles), American Golden Plover (County Wexford), Green-winged Teal (Leicestershire), and two each of Golden Oriole, Common Rosefinch, Purple Heron and migrant Red-necked Phalaropes, three Red-backed Shrikes, six Marsh Warblers, and a total of eight Rose-coloured Starlings. Signficant late news from yesterday concerned the redidentification of the Greenish Warbler on the Orkney Isles on North Ronaldsay as a Green Warbler. |
