In Co.Cork, a Wilson's Petrel lingered a while off Toe Head. A Black Kite flew over Woodborough in Nottinghamshire. There were four White-rumped Sandpipers around The Wash, with two at both Snettisham in Norfolk and Freiston Shore in Lincolnshire. There were also two in Co.Wexford, and the ongoing bird in East Yorkshire. The rest of the day's rarities comprised Forster's Tern in Co.Louth, Squacco Heron and Ferruginous Duck in Sussex, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, and Long-billed Dowitchers in Lincolnshire and Co.Derry. Among the best of the rest were Melodious Warbler (Cornwall), Marsh Warbler (Shetland), two Night Herons (Gloucestershire and Co.Wexford), Barred Warbler (Shetland), Pectoral Sandpiper (Norfolk), Red-necked Phalarope (Northumberland), Pomarine Skua (Co.Durham), Glossy Ibis (Gwent), three Great Shearwaters and 20 Balearic Shearwaters. |

A Sooty Tern slowly and distantly tracked east past Weybourne then Sheringham in the early morning. In West Sussex, a Squacco Heron turned up briefly Pagham Harbour in West Sussex. White-rumped Sandpipers were fresh in at Aberlady Bay in Lothian and Snettisham RSPB in Norfolk. A group of three Two-barred Crossbills fed in roadside gardens at Weisdale on Mainland Shetland. Lingering rarities included Blue-winged Teal in Clyde, Forster's Tern in Co.Louth, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Long-billed Dowitchers in Co.Derry and Lincolnshire and White-rumped Sandpipers in Lincolnshire (two) and Co.Wexford. Among the day's scarcities were Common Rosefinch (Lincolnshire), two Night Herons (Glos and Co.Wexford), Hoopoe (Isle of Wight), Pectoral Sandpiper (Essex), Red-backed Shrike (Gwynedd), Barred Warbler (Shetland) Long-tailed Skua (Norfolk), Cory's Shearwater (Cornwall), 18 Balearic Shearwaters and Glaucous Gull (Western Isles). |

| New discoveries included a Greenish Warbler on Mainland
Shetland, up to three Two-barred Crossbills on North Uist
(Western Isles), a White-rumped Sandpiper in Co Wexford and a
report of three Marsh Sandpipers on Kingsbridge Estuary
(Devon). Lingering rarities comprised Snowy Owl in Western Isles, White-rumped Sandpipers in Lincolnshire (2) and East Yorkshire, Blue-winged Teal in Clyde, Forster's Tern in Co Louth, Ferruginous Duck in East Sussex, Long-billed Dowitcher in Lincolnshire, Wilson's Petrel from an Isles of Scilly pelagic and Two-barred Crossbill in Shetland. The best of the rest included Pectoral Sandpiper (Co Wexford), Glossy Ibis (Gwent), Temminck's Stint (Lincolnshire), Surf Scoter (Lothian), Icterine Warbler (Orkney), Marsh Warbler (Shetland), and two Barred Warblers (Shetland). |

New rarities today were a Gull-billed Tern in Aberdeenshire (seen at Cruden Bay then Peterhead), a Long-billed Dowitcher at Lough Beg in Co.Derry and a Two-barred Crossbill near Bixter on Mainland Shetland. An evening pelagic in Scilly waters yielded four Wilson's Petrels. Other rarities included White-rumped Sandpipers in Lincolnshire (two) and East Yorkshire, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Ferruginous Duck in Sussex and Long-billed Dowitcher in Lincolnshire. Scarcities included Melodious Warbler (Fife), Rose-coloured Starling in Highland, Temminck's Stint (Lincolnshire), two Purple Herons (both juveniles at Manby Flashes, Lincolnshire), two Long-tailed Skuas, Glossy Ibis (Devon), Cory's Shearwater (Scilly) and 675 Balearic Shearwaters (including 654 past Berry Head, Devon). |

| A White-rumped Sandpiper was a new discovery at Kilnsea, Yorkshire.
Lingering rarities included the Aquatic Warbler in Fife, Pacific Golden Plover in Northumberland, Lesser Yellowlegs and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent and Ferruginous Duck in Sussex. Scarcity highlights included a Marsh Warbler, four Icterine Warblers, a White-winged Black Tern, a Pectoral Sandpiper, two Temminck's Stints and two Glossy Ibises. |

| The big talking point today was an exceptional movement of Wood Sandpipers. A total of 451 were reported, mostly from the eastern half of England, with the bulk of the numbers from the coast. At least 110 were seen at Cley, Norfolk throughout the day, eclipsing the previous highest count from the site, and the county, of 60 on August 7th 1952.
New rarities discovered today included a Two-barred Crossbill at Titchwell, Norfolk, another at Virkie, Shetland, a Pacific Golden Plover on Westray, Orkney and a Wilson's Petrel off County Cork. Lingering rarities included the Aquatic Warbler in Fife, Pacific Golden Plover in Northumberland, Long-billed Dowitcher and White-rumped Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Lesser Yellowlegs and Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Blue-winged Teal in Clyde and Ferruginous Duck in Sussex. |

The autumn's first Aquatic Warbler was found during the evening on the Isle of May in Fife, while a Great Reed Warbler arrived on Unst in Shetland. Ongoing rarities included Pacific Golden Plover in Northumberland, White-rumped Sandpiper in Lincolnshire, Bonaparte's Gull in Kent, Blue-winged Teal in Clyde and Ferruginous Duck in Sussex. Among the best of the rest were Rose-coloured Starling (Shetland), Purple Heron (Norfolk), Glossy Ibis (Gwent), six Balearic Shearwaters, a moving Honey Buzzard (Lothian), Iceland Gull (Shetland) and three Temminck's Stints (two together in Kent, one in Co.Durham). An extraordinary movement of waders, mainly in the east and south-east, saw Wood Sandpipers and Curlew Sandpipers move through in force, with multiple double-figure flocks of both species. An equally remarkable overland movement of Common Scoters over northern England saw hundreds flying over several sites, including counts such as 300 over Brockholes in Lancashire, while 510 flew up the Humber at Sunk Island in East Yorkshire. |

| County Kerry produced two new rarities today, a Snowy Owl
near Ventry and a Bonaparte's Gull at Blennerville. Lingering rare waders comprised Pacific Golden Plover in Northumberland, Long-billed Dowitcher and White-rumped Sandpiper in Lincolnshire and Lesser Yellowlegs in Kent. Forster's Tern (Co Louth), Bonaparte's Gull (Kent), Black Duck (Highland), Blue-winged Teal (Clyde) and Ferruginous Duck (East Sussex) also lingered. The best of the rest included Purple Heron (Norfolk), White-tailed Eagle (Northumberland), Temminck's Stint (Co Durham) and Honey Buzzard (Kent). |

| In the Western Isles, a Blue-cheeked Bee-eater was seen briefly near Stornoway, Lewis, before it flew south. Other new discoveries included a Gull-billed Tern past Inverbervie, Aberdeenshire and a Bee-eater at St Abb's Head, Borders.
