| Rarities today comprised the Ross's Gull still in Dorset, Thayer's Gull
in Hampshire, Lesser Scaup in Cornwall and Coues's Arctic Redpolls in both Norfolk and Suffolk. Scarcities included Little Bunting (London), Rose-coloured Starling (Pembrokeshire), Yellow-browed Warbler (South Yorkshire), American Wigeon (Leicestershire), Rough-legged Buzzard (Norfolk), Grey Phalarope (Northumberland), Glossy Ibis (Suffolk), two each of Ring-necked Duck, Lapland Bunting and Surf Scoter, four Ring-billed Gulls, seven Shorelarks (Norfolk), 12 Waxwings (Moray), and in England two Parrot Crossbills (Berkshire). Incoming spring arrivals included five Garganey between Devon and Dorset. |

Surrey, Thayer's Gull in Hampshire, Bonaparte's Gull in County Donegal,
Ferruginous Duck in Somerset and Coues's Arctic Redpolls in Norfolk (3) and Suffolk. Scarcities included Bluethroat (Orkney Isles), Little Bunting (London), Yellow-browed Warbler (South Yorkshire), Lapland Bunting (East Sussex), American Wigeon (Devon), Glossy Ibis (County Wicklow), two Surf Scoters (together in County Wexford), three Grey Phalaropes (together in Northumberland), four each of both both Ring-necked Duck and Ring-billed Gull, and a total of 38 Waxwings. Incoming summer migrants included a Little Ringed Plover in Worcestershire and four Garganey in Devon. |

| Rarity sightings comprised Ross's Gull (Dorset),
Horned Lark (Surrey), Coues's Arctic Redpolls (Norfolk
and Kent), Thayer's Gull (Hampshire), Bonaparte's Gull
(Co Donegal), Ferruginous Duck (Essex) and Cackling
Goose (Co Sligo). The best of the rest included Rose-coloured Starling (Pembrokeshire), White-tailed Eagle (Lincolnshire), Yellow-browed Warbler (South Yorkshire), three Parrot Crossbills (Berkshire/Surrey) and at least 37 Waxwings. |

| Lingering rarities comprised Horned Lark (Surrey), Coues's Arctic Redpoll (Norfolk) and King Eider (Shetland), whilst Little Bunting (London), Richard's Pipit and Yellow-browed Warbler (South Yorkshire), Grey Phalarope (Northumberland), American Wigeon (Highland), Ring-necked Ducks (Carmarthenshire and Western Isles) and at least 33 Waxwings were also logged. | ||

| The Stilt Sandpiper (Dorset), Horned Lark
(Surrey) and Long-billed Dowitcher (Co Wexford) all remained on
show as snow covered most of the UK. Lingering scarcities included
Yellow-browed Warbler (South Yorkshire) and Little Bunting
(London), whilst Waxwings were logged in North
Yorkshire (5), Norfolk and Suffolk. |

| Lingering rarities today comprised the Ross's Gull and Stilt Sandpiper both still in Dorset and the
Horned Lark in Surrey. Scarcities included Little Bunting (London), Richard's Pipit and Yellow-browed Warbler (together in South Yorkshire), American Wigeon (Devon), two Lapland Buntings (together in Kent), four Ring-necked Ducks, seven Glossy Ibises, 12 each of both Shorelark and Waxwing. Incoming spring migrants comprised a Wheatear in Lancashire and two Garganey in Hampshire. |

| Tuesday 27th February 2018 | ||

| Rarities today comprised the Pied-billed Grebe still on the Shetland Isles, Ross's Gull
and Stilt Sandpiper in Dorset, Horned Lark in Surrey, Thayer's Gull in Hampshire,
Long-billed Dowitcher in County Wexford, Bonaparte's Gull in Devon,
Ferruginous Duck in Somerset and in Norfolk a new Coues's Arctic Redpoll discovered in Norwich. Scarcities included Serin (Essex), Little Bunting (London), Richard's Pipit and Yellow-browed Warbler (together in South Yorkshire), Ring-billed Gull (Hampshire), Ring-necked Duck (Gloucestershire), three American Wigeons, five Glossy Ibises, eight Waxwings and nine Shorelarks. The first Wheatear of the spring was reported in Ayrshire. |

Scarcities included Bluethroat (East Sussex), Little Bunting (London), Richard's Pipit and Yellow-browed Warbler (together in South Yorkshire), Lapland Bunting (Cleveland), Snow Goose (Western Isles), two each of both American Wigeon and Ring-billed Gull, four Glossy Ibises, 10 Shorelarks (together in Kent) and in England 12 Parrot Crossbills (Derbyshire). |

| The highlight of the day was the discovery of a Gyr in Highland at Tongue. Rarities elsewhere comprised both the Ross's Gull and Stilt Sandpiper still in Dorset, Pied-billed Grebe in the Shetland Isles, Horned Lark in Surrey, Thayer's Gull in Hampshire, Pacific Diver and Lesser Scaup in Cornwall, Black Scoter in County Kerry, Spotted Sandpiper in Nottinghamshire, Long-billed Dowitcher in County Wexford, Bonaparte's Gull in Devon and County Donegal, and Ferruginous Duck in Somerset. Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (East Yorkshire), Little Bunting (London), Richard's Pipit (South Yorkshire), Temminck's Stint (West Sussex), two each of both Rough-legged Buzzard and Yellow-browed Warbler, three American Wigeons, five Ring-billed Gulls, six Ring-necked Ducks, seven Surf Scoters, 10 Shorelarks and in England four Parrot Crossbills (Derbyshire). |

| Saturday 24th February 2018 | ||

| The adult Ross's Gull continued its stay in the Weymouth
area (Dorset), whilst the Stilt Sandpiper also lingered in
Dorset and the Thayer's Gull remained in neighbouring
Hampshire. The Horned Lark (Surrey), Spotted Sandpiper
(Nottinghamshire), Long-billed Dowitchers (Kent and Co
Wexford), Coues's Arctic Redpoll (Norfolk), Lesser
Scaup (Cornwall), Bonaparte's Gull (Devon),
Semipalmated Plover (Co Mayo), Black Scoter (Co Kerry)
and King Eider (Ceredigion) were all still present. The best of the rest included Rose-coloured Starling (East Yorkshire), Temminck's Stint (West Sussex), Richard's Pipit (South Yorkshire), Little Bunting (London), Yellow-browed Warbler (Cornwall) and 12 Parrot Crossbills (Derbyshire). |
