| The highlight of the day was a Crag Martin in Derbyshire at Chesterfield, where it showed for little over an hour in the early afternoon: the twelfth British record,
and the first to be discovered in November. Rarities elsewhere comprised the Pallid Harrier still in Lincolnshire, a Long-billed Dowitcher new in County Dublin, Gull-billed Tern in County Kerry, Lesser Yellowlegs and a brief Penduline Tit in Norfolk, Dusky Warbler and two White-rumped Sandpipers in County Cork, and Ferruginous Duck in County Durham. Scarcities included Serin (Devon), Red-breasted Flycatcher (County Cork), Surf Scoter (Lothian), Cattle Egret (Cornwall), two each of American Golden Plover, Ring-necked Duck, Glossy Ibis and Yellow-browed Warbler, three of Richard's Pipit and Rough-legged Buzzard, five Lapland Buntings, and six of both Shorelark and Great Grey Shrike. |
