| The highlight of the day was the discovery of Ross's Gull in County Dublin at North Bull Island, whilst in Staffordshire a
Lesser Scaup was identified at Tittesworth Reservoir. Lingering rarities confirmed as still present were the American Coot and King Eider in Highland, Ivory Gull in County Wexford, American Buff-bellied Pipit in Cheshire, Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler in Devon, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire, and six Two-barred Crossbills together in South Yorkshire. Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (Isles of Scilly), American Wigeon (Highland), Cattle Egret (Buckinghamshire), two Surf Scoters, three Rough-legged Buzzards, eight Glossy Ibises, and 12 Parrot Crossbills (together in Nottinghamshire). Significant late news concerned the confirmation that the White-winged Scoter at Musselburgh, Lothian on 26th December 2013 was a Stejneger's Scoter, the first British record of this form, following one in Ireland at Rossbeigh Strand, County Kerry on 1st February-11th April 2011. |

| Lingering rarities confirmed as still present today were the American
Coot, King Eider and Lesser Scaup in Highland, Ivory Gull in County Wexford,
American Buff-bellied Pipit in Cheshire, two Hume's Yellow-browed Warblers in Kent,
Red-breasted Goose and Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire, Bonaparte's Gull and
White-billed Diver in Devon, King Eider in County Mayo, White-billed Diver
on the Orkney Isles, and Two-barred Crossbills in Gloucestershire (7), Norfolk and South Yorkshire (7). Scarcities included Ring-necked Duck (County Waterford), Grey Phalarope (East Sussex), two each of Yellow-browed Warbler, Shorelark, Rough-legged Buzzard and Black Brant, three each of Cattle Egret and Snow Goose, four Surf Scoters, five Green-winged Teals, seven Great Grey Shrikes, eight Glossy Ibises, 11 Lapland Buntings, 12 Great White Egrets, and 19 Parrot Crossbills. Notable gulls included 31 Glaucous, 17 Iceland, six Caspian, four Ring-billed and a Kumlien's. |

| An adult Ross's Gull flew west past Dungeness (Kent) this afternoon
Elsewhere today's rarities included American Buff-bellied Pipit in Cheshire, Lesser Yellowlegs and Red-breasted Goose in Hampshire, Ivory Gull in Co Wexford, Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler in Kent, American Coot and Lesser Scaup in Highland, Marsh Sandpiper in Western Isles, King Eiders in Co Mayo and Highland, White-billed Diver in Orkney and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon. A total of 21 Two-barred Crossbills were logged (15 in Gloucestershire and 6 in South Yorkshire). The best of the rest included Rose-coloured Starling in Isles of Scilly, two Cattle Egrets, two Yellow-browed Warblers, 11 Glossy Ibises and 15 Parrot Crossbills. |

| New today was a Bonaparte's Gull in Glamorgan, off the heliport in
Cardiff.
Lingering rarities included the American Coot and Lesser Scaup in Highland, American Buff-bellied Pipit in Cheshire, Ivory Gull in County Wexford, two Hume's Yellow-browed Warblers in Kent, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire, White-billed Diver in Orkney, single King Eiders in Lothian and County Mayo, Lesser Scaup in Glamorgan and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon. Two-barred Crossbills were seen in Norfolk, Yorkshire (seven), Shropshire (three) and Gloucestershire (five) There was no sign of the White-winged Scoter in Lothian, which was seen on Boxing Day. |

| Significant late news today involved a drake White-winged Scoter in
Lothian, which was photographed off Musselburgh on Boxing Day last year.
New discoveries today included a White-billed Diver off South Ronaldsay, Orkney and two Richardson's Cackling Geese on North Uist, Western Isles. Lingering rarities included the American Coot in Highland, Thayer's Gull in Glamorgan, Ivory Gull in County Wexford, American Buff-bellied Pipit in Cheshire, two Hume's Yellow-browed Warblers in Kent, White-billed Diver and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, King Eider in Lothian, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire, single Lesser Scaups in Highland, Western Isles and Glamorgan. Two-barred Crossbills were in Norfolk, Shropshire (three), Yorkshire (seven) and Gloucestershire (four). |

| Lingering rarities today comprised the American Coot in Highland,
Short-billed Dowitcher on Orkney, Thayer's Gull in Glamorgan,
Marsh Sandpiper on the Western Isles, two Hume's Yellow-browed Warblers
in Kent, Ivory Gull in County Wexford, White-billed Diver and
Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire and single
King Eiders in Shetland and County Mayo. Two-barred Crossbills
were in Yorkshire (six), Shropshire (three) and Gloucestershire (five).
Scarcity highlights included a Sabine's Gull, a Grey Phalarope, a Rose-coloured Starling, a Richard's Pipit, two Yellow-browed Warblers, three Rough-legged Buzzards, three Kumlien's Gulls, five Great Grey Shrikes and 19 Parrot Crossbills. |

| In Highland the American Coot lingered at Loch Flemington whilst in Cheshire
the American Buff-bellied Pipit reappeared at Burton Marsh. Elsewhere lingering
rarities included Marsh Sandpiper and Lesser Scaup on Western Isles,
Lesser Scaup in Cornwall, Ivory Gull
in Co Wexford, Bonaparte's Gull in Devon, at least five Two-barred Crossbills in
South Yorkshire, a single Two-barred Crossbill in Gloucestershire, King Eider
in Lothian and Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire. In Kent the Hume's
Yellow-browed Warbler lingered in Ramsgate and a White-billed Diver was reported
in Cornwall.
The best of the rest included at least 17 Parrot Crossbills, at least 16 Glossy Ibises, nine Great White Egrets, three Yellow-browed Warblers, two Cattle Egrets, Rose-coloured Starling (Isles of Scilly) and Richard's Pipit (Pembrokeshire). |

| The highlight of the day was a juvenile Ivory Gull in County Wexford at
Tacumshin: the first in Ireland this winter, following nine sightings in Britain since 30th November 2013. Other rarities today comprised both the American Coot and Lesser Scaup still in Highland, Thayer's Gull and Lesser Scaup again in Glamorgan, Hume's Yellow-browed Warbler in Kent, Two-barred Crossbill in Berkshire (heard only) and Shropshire (3), Bonaparte's Gull and White-billed Diver still in Devon, and Lesser Scaup in both Cornwall and Western Isles. Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (Isles of Scilly), American Wigeon (Orkney Isles), two each of Ring-necked Duck, Surf Scoter, Rough-legged Buzzard and Cattle Egret, three each of both Yellow-browed Warbler and Great Grey Shrike, five Green-winged Teals, 12 each of Shorelark and Great White Egret, 13 Glossy Ibises and 25 Parrot Crossbills. Notable gulls included 19 Glaucous, 17 Iceland, 17 Caspian and two Ring-billed. |

| Lingering rarities confirmed as still present today were both American Coot
and Lesser Scaup in Highland, Short-billed Dowitcher on the Orkney Isles,
Bonaparte's Gull and White-billed Diver in Devon, and 10 Two-barred Crossbills together on South Yorkshire. Scarcities included Rose-coloured Starling (Isles of Scilly), Yellow-browed Warbler (Devon), Ring-necked Duck (Leicestershire), American Wigeon (Aberdeenshire), Grey Phalarope (East Sussex), Richard's Pipit and Rough-legged Buzzard (both Norfolk), two Cattle Egrets, three Surf Scoters, four Lapland Buntings, nine Parrot Crossbills, and 14 of both Glossy Ibis and Great White Egret. Totals of notable gulls included 20 Glaucous, 17 Iceland, four Ring-billed and two Kumlien's. |

| In Highland the American Coot lingered at Loch Flemington whilst in
Glamorgan the Thayer's Gull and American Herring Gull both
remained at Burry Holms. Elsewhere lingering rarities included Lesser Scaup
in Highland, Lesser Yellowlegs in Hampshire, White-billed Diver
and Bonaparte's Gull in Devon and Two-barred Crossbills in South
Yorkshire (6) and Shropshire.
The best of the scarcities included Richard's Pipit (Norfolk), Rose-coloured Starling and Serin (Isles of Scilly), Cattle Egret (Buckinghamshire), two Yellow-browed Warblers, 14 Glossy Ibises and at least 31 Parrot Crossbills. |
