Surprise of the day was perhaps the Squacco Heron in Yorkshire, which spent the day on the patio in a garden on Beacon Lane, Kilnsea, and the earliest ever Swainson's Thrush for Britain was found on Fair Isle, Shetland this afternoon. Nearly 1,200 Leach's Petrels were reported along the west coast of Scotland down to the west coast of Wales, although some of these birds will undoubtedly have been counted twice or more.
