System Specifications
  • In order to use the Rare Bird Alert web-site you will first of all need a connection to the Internet.
  • To achieve the best results, you will need Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or greater, or Netscape Navigator 6 or greater.
  • You will also need a minimum screen area of 800 by 600 pixels and a colour depth of at least 16bits (High Colour).
Checking your colour depth

If the circle below appears grey with a darker grey "2" inside, then your screen’s colour depth is sufficient to be able to make the most of the Rare Bird Alert web-site.



To change your screen’s colour depth:
    On a PC
  • Click on Start.
  • Select Settings and Control Panel.
  • Double-click on the Display icon.
  • Click on the Settings tab at the top of the Display Properties window.
  • At the bottom left of the window you will see a drop-down list of options under the title of Colors. Use this list to select “High Color (16 bit)”, or any other option that will offer you more than 256 colours.
  • Click on Apply.
  • Select Apply the new color settings without restarting? and click on OK.
  • Click on OK in the Display Properties window to close that window.
  • Close the Control Panel.
Checking your screen resolution
The RBA website is designed to fit comfortably in a screen with a minimum horizontal resolution of 800 pixels. If you are unsure of what your screen resolution is,

To change your screen’s area:
    On a PC
  • Click on Start.
  • Select Settings and Control Panel.
  • Double-click on the Display icon.
  • Click on the Settings tab at the top of the Display Properties window.
  • At the bottom right of the screen you will see a vertical ruler indicating your current Screen area. Use the pointer on the ruler to select a screen area of 800 x 600 (or greater).
  • Click on Apply.
  • You will be informed that Windows will resize your desktop and that it may take a few seconds. Click on OK.
  • The Monitor Settings window will ask you to confirm your choice. Click on OK.
  • Click on OK in the Display Properties window to close that window.
  • Close the Control Panel.
